So as the the subject implies, i'm fairly new to roulette.  I am not all that new to gambling however.  Or the idea of it that is.  I've never actually played, but i've done a good bit of looking into blackjack and card counting.  I've done enough looking to know basic stuff like the idea that you cannot win with betting strategies.  I know that the only way to beat roulette is to take advantage of the physics involved.

I know that there are ways to get a general idea of where the ball will land.  So that way you're "guessing," out of 10 options rather than 37.  I have a vague idea of how this is done.  I'm curious as to how successful you can be with simply having a reference point thats the same each time and measuring how far away the ball lands from that space.  Could you use this to narrow it down to the top 8 or 9 options and win with this?

I've also heard of rhythm counting.  I understand that you track the motion of the wheel and ball and then calculate the most likely landing positions.  What I don't understand is how you use this information to find an answer.  What formula do you use with this data to get an idea of where you should bet?

Thanks for your help in advance.
