Title: Calling the bottom
Post by: ChickenDinner on October 05, 2008, 08:10:28 PM
I think we are at the bottom of the market now. I only wish I had some spare cash to snap up the over sold bargains...

The stockmarket usually reacts to things (like recessions, wars, etc) before they happen, so I think we must be at, or if it not very close to the bottom. If you've got faith in capitalism, you're retirement fund will be fine Sam, although it will probably take a few years to recover fully. That's what I tell my Dad; he's lost near half his retirement money in the last year or so. But he hasn't really lost anything until he sells, which I've told him would be a big mistake at the moment. If anything, he should buy up more while they're cheap. If you think long term, this is probably one of the best buying opportunities we are going to get for a very long time. Yes it could drop more yet, but all hell would have to break loose for it to plummet like 1929-1932 again.

markets will fall further. best case choppy, one day up one day down. dont buy yet. wait. if really desperate buy 3 month or 6 month long call options on the index or front line stocks.

This is a good time to buy "Democratic" stocks...electronics, computers, software, networks.

Apart from 1 or 2 daily dips, the DOW (& most other world markets) have not dropped below the levels they were at when I called it. :)

Saying that, nor have they gone anywhere since either.

This year will be interesting.

I took a big gamble on banking shares at close of trading today. Wish me luck. I'll need it  ;)
