It is to your advantage to make your gambling timeline as short as possible, and here's why: the casino's advantage is quite real, but it's predicated on the operation of the "law of averages" over a long period. (In Old World casinos, it's even called the "law of large numbers" -not a bad name considering that thousands of players bet on millions of hands, year-in, year-out.)

By exposing your money for an extended period, you veer unavoidably closer to the ultimate built-in loss that the casino's statistician has prepared for you. Brevity of gambling session is, for that reason, a handy secret weapon for you. It's not guaranteed to make you win; but a long session is guaranteed to make you lose.

The casino edge for slot machines, and for that matter for all casino games, is based on long-term trials. Casinos, open 24 hours a day, greet with a big smile those millions of hands of blackjack and handle pulls. With thousands of hopefuls playing slots, craps, roulette, and blackjack at any given moment, and with a mathematical advantage to the casino in every one of them, the casino can't lose, but players who lengthen their bankroll's exposure give the casino a correspondingly greater opportunity to eat it.

Bottom line: Your best chance to win comes when you shorten your playing time, exploiting any favorable deviations from the law of big numbers that may occur. Of course, when you've won the entire casino, then you opt for all-night gambling sessions. Until then, master the hit-and-run method of gambling.

I too know that the casino's edge gets stronger as you stay there longer, but does that apply only if you stay at one wheel? What if you kept changing tables?

play a short time today and a short time next week it will make no difference.  the edge will follow you  thats why it is impossible to win in the long run.

...........this can work both negative and positive. Suppose you interrumpt the dealer and it would have been your number that came up..... now because you interrumpted the dealer it does not come up....... so all stays the same.....  ::)

there is no way. the law applies to everybody. say we both go to the casino and you play red and i play black.  we both will pick the same number of winners. and if today i pick more then the number i should. on my next visit i will pick less. in the long run the casino will win. good punting.

hello all,
Think i must be missing something here?  hopefully someone could please take the time to explain to me how an inatimate object ie: the wheel controls where i place my bets?  the edge will follow you???? how?? do the results from every table i play at form one large sequence inside my head? would it make a difference if i sat under the table and shouted up where i wanted my bets and did not know if i won or lost?
granted at this moment in time no holy grail exists and eventually all set systems will fall to the house edge because as we know over time everything will happen, every sequence will show , colours, numbers so what made you win can make you lose. but isnt that why players who go to a casino to win carry with them an arsenal of strategies and systems to try and combat that?
with the greatest of respect to you chaps who believe in it, Im very happy knowing that if i go to a casino and lose (which is a handful of sessions this year by the way, far outweighed by my winning days.   shit if i carry on this way i may not win for the whole of 2010? ;D) i know its due to my strategy, bet selection and money management or the last beer and sod all to do with any law that says i have to lose whatever i do.
I struggle to understand why anyone who actually believes this stuff would spend their time on a roulette site telling others that its impossible for them to win in the long run?

I GO TO THE CASINO SOMETIMES I WIN FIVE DAYS IN A ROW.  BUT THEN I GO AND DISASTAR NOTHING GOES RIGHT.  I BELIEVE THIS IS THE CASINO CATCHING UP. SAY I BACK ONE NUMBER HOW MANY TIMES SHOULD I EXPECT TO WIN. IF I COULD PICK ONE IN A HUNDRED.  I WOULD BE HAPPY. THE CASINO RECKONS IF YOU BACK THE DOZENS YOU WILL NOT BE CORRECT ENOUGH TIMES TO MAKE A PROFIT.IF YOU WIN ON A REGULAR BASIS . GOOD LUCK TO YOU. ANYBODY WHO CAN MAKE MONEY GAMBLING   OR A LIVING .  I HAVE TRIED FOR YEARS WITHOUT SUCCESS.  STILL TRYING.
TELL ME YOU ARE IN FRONT YEAR AFTER YEAR.

The only way to beat roulette long run is to guess more times right than wrong, in other words, try to predict the future. Of course knowledge and control of yourself as well.

So, who is able to predict the future?

so if i lose a number of imaginary bets at the table and lose then place my cash bets and win, do the imaginary bets count?? after all im losing many more future predictions than im winning but still up?
does the house edge only apply to bets you place on the table??
sorry chaps but still confused on this one....  ::)

Playing Smart

Although roulette is a very simple game that one can easily learn, it is not reason to stop paying attention to the game at hand. A player should remember that every bet he makes is an investment. Take a player who has a starting bankroll of about $100. With this amount, a player should limit his losses to the same amount for the entire roulette session. In a similar vein, a player who wins the same amount during the session should know to stop and return another day. This is a basic guide when it comes to protecting your bankroll while making sure that roulette still remains a game of full of fun and excitement.

Maximizing Enjoyment

Nothing feels better than winning several rounds at the roulette table. Winning big is one sure way of succeeding in fattening your bankroll. However, this hardly happens a lot. Roulette has a lot of chance factored into it that makes it imperative for players to maintain control of their minds and manage their money better. It is easy to fall into a false sense of luck that will lead you to a winning streak or win after a losing a streak if you keep going at it. That is how most casinos would advertise a game such as roulette.

It is important to remember that you should not gamble with money you are not willing to lose or can't afford to. Be ready with your own game plan to increase your chances of winning. There are several guides out there that can help you increase the odds of winning. This is a better option than playing blindly. And this one is easier said than done - know when to stop. It is generally known that it takes a good player to know when to stop when he's on a losing skid or winning streak. Even if you lose, you may have learned something and know that you lost what you can afford to lose. This may have dampened your spirits but not to the extent that you would hate yourself afterward. On one hand, if you earned a small or big profit, that makes the game more thrilling than usual. More than that, you have been thoroughly entertained.

--------------------------------------------------------

In my own words and thinking :

Whatever system you play or use , any system is still better than playing blindly and just trusting on your luck.

For example a system like martingale is known and proven not to work in the long run, while it yields high gain potential in the short term.

Imagine playing roulette like if you stirr up water while in the ocean, you will produce waves .
There is only 2 types of waves winning and loosing. And you can stirr it up as much as you want better yet as much as your bankroll allows ;) , the ability to stirr it up more wisely is given to you by
the system you use,  and then its up to you to call it quits every time you win and catch a winning wave. Just take your money and get out...

@ pins

If you really played for many years , and I reconn you know pretty much everything there is to know about roulette systems and u used many of them tested and tried.. and still can't manage to get out a big profit winner -
its not any system fault , i think you just bring a huge personal variabel of bad luck to the table, to such an extent that even with systems that allow you to win more often , you still loose too often.
Does that make sense ? We have a saying here : "Luck in game bad luck in love" - So vice versa this means you are the greatest lover of all times.
Just joking - pls take no offense , I see your point...

I mean u can be the most knowledgable person and just keep on loosing  no matter what or you can be a dumb person with no idea whatsoever and keep on winning without any system..

To effectivly win at roulette you would need to cheat the game physically with a computer if such a thing exists.

Untill then - have you ever tried teaming up with other players or friends, and I mean those who keep winning..then adopt their techniques and strategies , jumping on their luck...maybe this will shift  it towards profit for you.

And I think we all need to keep in mind : Just because something works for one person doesn't mean it will work for another or everybody the same way..even if you copy every move - still if you keep on loosing all the time u need to change something dramatically i think.

Peace
