What do pit bosses actually look out for?

I was at the casino today, and over a period of about 90-120 minutes I floated between breaking even and making a small gain. I changed tables towards the end because it was getting too crowded, and when I sat down I re-adjusted my shirt and my sleeves and scratched my face, and I noticed one of the pit bosses looking intently at me, as if I was cheating or making some signs.

WTF??

For the rest of my time at that table (about 30 minutes) he always kept an eye on me, and it just ruined my mood, so I cashed in and left.

So I'm wondering, what the hell do they look out for? Like, if I have some sort of super-duper mini-computer that tells me the next winning number? Or if I'm signalling people that the table is getting 'hot' as if it was blackjack??

Unless what you are doing is offensive (I take for granted you aren't such type) or impolite (i.e. taking too much table space with your notes), don't panic, don't let them intimidate you and just keep playing. The worst thing you can do is leaving because of them simply checking you. You just don't run from the police if they are only looking, do you? :)

Remember: they are only trying to keep the game smooth, and cheat-free. That's their job mate, at times we forget the casino is also a place dealing with money, not like a bank, but they do have to implement their measures to cope with cheats (both in-house and from punters); pitbosses are part of such tactical line.

Hey! They may even help you solve an unpaid bet and other issues at the table every once in a while ;)

Victor

Most of the time they watch out for ruthless VB players like Herb.lol
and of course cheaters with computers

Mr J

The casino here is way too easy going. I see guys with their cell phones pointed directly at the wheel while pit watches them. A couple guys do get some nice hits but coincidence perhaps. Pit employees were jerks just a couple years ago but have calmed down since.  Ken
