Title: The Nature Of Random Numbers
Post by: bombus on April 25, 2009, 09:21:19 AM
There is a groundswell of interest in the nature of random numbers here at the forum, which considering roulette is all about random numbers, is a good thing. So would it not be a prudent to have a study group dedicated to understanding randomness?
This forum is meant to be about sharing roulette knowledge, but more often than not the threads degenerate into defending ones beliefs, methods, principles, etc, or conversely, attacking same.
The advantage players tell the probability players that their efforts are futile (because they know better).
The probability players tell the advantage players that they are chasing a wild goose (and usually paying big bucks for the privilege).
The grinders tell the opportunists to slow down.
The opportunists tell the grinders they're wasting too much time.
And so it goes...
But we're all playing the same game, a random number game.
The problem here is the exponents of randomness are quick to proclaim the superior technique of understanding randomness, and to deprecate all other methods, but are rarely willing to explain even the basics.
So perhaps a "nature of random numbers" study group could help bridge the gap between the various schools of roulette thought?

Dear Bombus, I'm willing to create such a study group. Are you willing to moderate it?

Regards,
Victor

Bombus, I've already made that study. There is enough knowledge to be learned as to write a book. I plan to back up that book with computer simulations that are designed to teach. I'll put the reader on the same path that I already walked for more than thirty years. Only it should only take a few months to walk it.

So I will gladly read any contributors content. It will be fun to watch differing understandings and the progress others have made on this subject.

So far you are right on regarding how different gambling styles deal with it. Don't forget to allow those with magical thinking to contribute too. They really believe their superstitions are true.
