This thread reminds me of why our local grocery market closed.  Well, not really-

The owner of the local grocery store began to alienate his customers and some of them began searching out another place to shop. He also owned the adjacent bakery, which sold very expensive pastries.  He claimed that he was able to extrude the dough in his centrifugal oven by using his great knowledge of physics.  As he continued to abuse more of  his  patrons by telling them that they are "behaving like children",  more consumers left.  Many of these customers  found a new market that has an even better produce and deli department.  The owner of the new market didn't have a side business selling baked goodies, so everyone could just browse with no pressure to buy anything.

I visited the new store, but not frequently.  Still, some old dogs remained.  They noticed that more of the regulars that they would see shopping were no longer visiting the old store.  Some had been banned and are not even allowed in the door.  The owner became more crotchety, and more and more people disappeared.  The store owner used to sit in the office and take care of the "business", but he came into the store itself too much and harassed the customers.

The person that you liked to talk to once in a while, had become everyone's condescending dad.  Over the past year, his overbearing presence had become quite annoying.  You couldn't even sneak in to buy milk without him preaching to you.  Finally, no one could stand to listen to stories about his expensive baked goods.  More and more customers grew tired of his rap.

One day, I realized that I was no longer welcome in the store.  I assume that I had been banned for speaking the truth.   He hasn't let me in since I spoke well of one of his customers who publicly published the recipe to one of his very pricy pies.  People always told me that the grocery store was just a front for the bakery.   Well, I'm glad I never actually bought a two-thousand dollar brownie.  RP

Hey mates, there is room for every forum out there. As people is free to discuss where they feel better :)

As to our space, I'm very glad and thankful of the people who is being supportive. It is very very appreciated.

Also, little by little I'm getting my "outside the net" life back, which is increasingly allowing me to devote more time to our beloved place.

Good news is this month things are becoming brighter; today the wife is more calm the custody of my son is not at stake and the money is flowing. I got more freedom to grind, and things are getting better and better.

By the way, words of wisdom here: I have been doing full-time gambling in the past and it is one of the most stressful things for the wife to take. Unless you get the positive edge at the wheel, do not do full time. I consider myself lucky enough (or perhaphs wise enough) to have a certain "smell" for streaks as to not to lose it all in a bad day, and grinding the profits little by little I am confident I put myself in a better position to end up in a good place at the end of the month.

The basic food and house money is granted and by gambling I am aiming for improving the lifestyle not for survival, which is a very good.

Also, there is another thing that happened. I partnered to play online and the wife couldn't stand it, in her words: "having me home but not having me", meaning I was so focused on my play (as it should be) that I just wouldn't get me distracted, so she couldn't talk to me or ask me for buying something or helping her and it frustrated her to the point of exploiting... so she demanded me to stop playing online and get out of the house to gamble. "Gambling for outside, at the casino", at home she needs a husband and parent... which I promised and I'm delivering. One thing is to devote time online and also make breaks to care for the house and family and another very different to be stuck at your seat without leaving any space

Fact is, a gambling husband is considered wrong by society. Try explainig the wife how going from 7 p.m to 2 or 3 a.m. and "achieving" breaking even is not wasting family time... quite a task!

Well, those issues aside, important thing is I'm getting back to my regular online time -as much as I can extrapolate without messing with the family.

For our forum, I want to make it always get bigger and better, in the technical aspect sure we can improve. I am considering making an interstitial ads experiment. I mean, ads give only a couple cents a click, BUT it is like a "free donation" money and if xman is right, then we may work on volume.

If things go well with the experiment, then we could move upward to a better server space.

We don't need one of those dedicated server for sure, I was thinking more in a Virtual Private Server with guaranteed RAM and guaranteed processing cycles, which can be still get for under $100. C'mon, we can do it! Getting bigger and better together, that the serverspace upgrade comes from the ads.

Also, it allows fellow guests to actively contribute (for free!) with the site.

I think people do not click them currently as they are at the footer, but by making them interstitial (3 sponsored links, and 1 "no thanks") it can serve as a reminder they are there to help us!

After thinking it extensively, right now to me ads are a good option, better than direct donation as it is a model for many websites; advertisers support them in exchange of getting the rights to be sent visitors to their sites. That's not a bad model at all, and it is a good and zero cost for us as community.

This is an experiment I want to make. And as it could be detected when someone clicks, I also want to implement not displaying that person with ads for 2 days. Only showing them once per visit, and once the click is made to ahve 2 days without any ads by default with perhaphs making an option in the profile as to how often to display them. I don't know, it is an experiment to be tweaked! :)

Well xman, my mate, hopefully we'll continue to grow bigger and better both in the technical aspect as well as in the content. Thanks to every contributor who has been posting as well as the readers.

As for me, I am with total will to provide both input with my strategies as well as being spanish-english translator for many good posters from the spanish forums.

May we be a strong and self-sustained forum, for the long run. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Kind regards,
Victor

Victor,
It was nice to read your post and I'm sure all the members are glad that things are well.  Writing from my personal experience, any "business" run from home without the full support of the entire family is destined to fail.

You are correct in that "there is room for every forum out there".  I think most members read and/or post site to site.  I guess that it really isn't productive to critique or insult other sites.  If you want to edit, take down or relocate my post then do so.

Most gambling sites and forums advertise, including the above mentioned sites.  Saliu and the Wiz advertise, too.  If you need to advertise, then don't hesitate to do so.  It was nice that you forwarned the members, but certainly not necessary.  RP

Hi mate, I just want our place to grow bigger & better as time goes by. Both at the technical part (better space, more dedicated ram for processing, forum features, etc.) as to the actual roulette discussion.

I think: hey, there is a free way for the fellows to donate by reviewing other sites from time to time, no strings attached.

So we've got our active members, plus fellow guests; say we average 5 cents a bid, with 100 clicks a day: 0.05 x 100 = $5... even at that level that is enough to pay a fine service at the end of the month and costs nothing to neither the forum crew nor the fellow visitors. That is what I want! Hosting is still cheap. So who cares if we do not have a big "legal funds" or the like as other sites do... (we are trying not to get sued anyway [smiley=lolk.gif] ) all I want is the site pays itself a fine server and also by the means of it the community of members & guests gets involved and we grow bigger & better as time goes by :)

As there is a free way to donate, I see nothing wrong to use it!

QuoteNice1, Victor glad things are good at home

Yes mate, I truly love this place from the bottom of my heart it is frustrating for me when I can't devote as much time as I want to here.

I feel I still have so many things to deliver to our roulette discussion place, and I'm totally wanting & willing to do so.

Look X-mate, I must behave good at home with the wife so I can hang out more here & the casino. A big incentive to keep a gambler & fellow forumer behaving straight...

Nice words there Victor, this truely is a great place to spend time at everyday, and the amount i have learnt from this site over the last 3 1/2 months is undescribable.

I am all for the ad's, and will make a point of clicking the links daily. I hear what you are saying regarding the family time vs online time, i have been fortunate enough to find a balance between the two, which seems to be keeping the wife happy. When she sleeps, that's my time, which gives me a couple hours every night.

Once again, thanks everyone for making this an awesome place to spend time.

MXkid77

Oh yes, "toppie" may have originated from SA. Afrikaans slang for "old man"
