Title: Betting on the full moon
Post by: curious on September 17, 2009, 05:55:13 PM
I found a website that claims that the phases of the moon affect human psychic ability and thus the outcome of gambling.

The university of nevada did a study of casino payouts during different phases of the moon which showed higher payouts on the full moon and lower payouts on the new moon.

For roulette the optimum was to play the day before the full moon.  The next full moon will occur on October 4th, so October 3rd would be the optimum.

If you google "full moon" and "gambling" you will find the study done by the university of nevada.

Interesting.
There is so much we don't know yet about gambling.
Those who search and learn are blessed, those who think they know all there is to know, are fools.

And then there's this.  nolinks://nolinks.skepdic.com/fullmoon.html (nolinks://nolinks.skepdic.com/fullmoon.html)

Interesting the study comes from Nevada. You don't think they have an interest is making people think its luckier to play during a full moon, do you?

What a conspiracy!  The University of Nevada having an interest in gambling theories.

Give us a break Spike.  The University of Nevada has an entire department dedicated to gambling math.  They have done thousands of research studies on a wide variety of topics.

They are also hugely supported by the gaming industry in Nevada, what harm is there is supporting yet another urban myth about gambling. Gamblers are the most superstitious people on earth.

So in your experience, universities are not supported by the cities in which they find themselves? Of course they are and gambling is a huge supporter in Nevada and the univ is a HUGE supporter of gambling. Look at their available courses sometime..

In any case, I wouldn't expect them to tell people NOT to gamble. ::)

Curious,

When you said "full moon", I immediatlyh related it to Addonai's "Half of the Moon" Splits (Tested here: nolinks://vlsroulette.com/testing-zone/addonai's-'half-of-the-moon'-system-test/ (nolinks://vlsroulette.com/testing-zone/addonai's-'half-of-the-moon'-system-test/) )

Just wanted to say that. I'll keep neutral and refrain from commenting on whether the moon actually makes gamblers more proficient (or not) :)

Not sure what you are talking about.

Here is an excerpt describing the research that was done at the University of Nevada.   The research was to look at casino payouts and compare them to the lunar cycle.

"More recently, psi researcher Dr. Dean Radin has conducted a great deal of research into the impact of the moon on psychic ability. His earliest investigations occurred at the University of Nevada where he carried out an intriguing analysis of payouts at a Nevada casino to see if they tracked any lunar cycle. He also attempted to determine whether this cycle appeared to influence the earth's geomagnetic field (GMF). In this study, he analyzed payouts from roulette machines, keno, blackjack, craps, slot machines and a combination of all five games.

Radin demonstrated a relationship between the earth's geomagnetic field and the lunar cycle—at times of a new moon or a full moon, the earth's GMF was at its quietest. He then analyzed casino data from between 1991 and 1994 to determine whether the highest payouts happened during days of geomagnetic calm and full moons. Overall he examined data for about 50 lunar cycles.

Results were significant. Payout percentages were at their highest (78.5 per cent) during full moons, and at their lowest a week before and after the new moon. "Gambling on or near days of the full moon, and by avoiding the casino on or near days of the new moon, over the long-term, gamblers may be able to boost their payout percentage by about 2 per cent," writes Radin."

While  at the moon phase. Let`s  narrow it down to High and Low tide. If there is  a low  tide in any given selected geographic location we  are betting  the LOW numbers or vice versa.

Still a lucky 50/50.

But then I hear the mathboyzz  say you can`t win in the  long run.

HAPPY WINNINGS!!

I would want to see some evidence of that, which is easy enough to produce.  Take a calender of the tides and the moon phases and a record of live spins from one of the German casinos and see if the low tides produce more low numbers.  Should be easy enough.

Curious,

But bear in mind  you must take  into consideration the HIGH  and LOW tide  at  the German coast line  with the North Sea.

Mr. J

The  correct spelling of " mathboyzz" is  important to achieve the desired results.

HAPPY WINNINGS!!!

Ken,

And the ones who know better... they don't play to begin with.

Yes, on occasion... and sometimes hi-limit slots.  Usually when the baccarat-tables are being hand-shuffled; or I'm taking a break from bj, though I rarely play that game any more.

When I lived in Windsor, Ont, I had a standing invitation to all my visiting uncles... we would go to the single-0 tables upstairs where they would (once) pick a color, and I would put a $500 chip there, and the $1000 was theirs if right.  None of them ever gambled on anything in their lives. Maybe that's the "secret" bet-selection, because those few big bets left me "ahead" on it?
