Title: shuffle by hand vs machine
Post by: John1234 on June 02, 2009, 02:02:34 AM
I have been doing some live testing with dublinBet's live baccarat. I am from USA so I can only practice.

I noticed that the dealers on DublinBet have to shuffle the cards by hand. I could be mistaken but I think that the casinos in Atlantic City use an automatic shuffler or something like that.

If I am going to be playing at a table that has a machine shuffling the cards, is it safe to use live data from decks that were shuffled by hand? This is probably a stupid question but I just want to make sure there that there ins't a difference.

John1234,

In my experience, 95% claim all the those things you mentioned matter. But barring any PROOF to the contrary, I have always maintained that any sort of (casino) "procedural" shuffling will have the same result IN THE LONG RUN (over a billion shuffles).

Ultimately, shuffling by hand involves the same electrons pushing off electrons as an ASM (automatic shuffling machine) or a CSM (continuous shuffling machine); though the latters use a computer chip to determine passes and piles of the cards inside (, and, eg, the programmer commits such a random act by hand setting the "seed".) One sequence is as locked in or not, depending on your philosophies, etc, as the other. Randomness by analog means is as random-or-not by digital. (Randomness is a much more intrinsic property than are the analog or digital; and certainly precedes those.)

I'm not sure how much actual trial-testing has been done by the casino industry itself but I know each and every precaution is taken to "insure" randomness either way from the outset. Casinos err tremendously on the side of over-cautiousness.

The only significant differences are that shuffling by hand sometimes (intentionally or not) results in unshuffled "slugs" of cards; and in a slower game.

Sometimes the cards are shuffled by hand when the ASM breaks down.

Thanks for the great lesson on shuffling.

One last thought on that to help make what i'm saying clearer by an analogy.

Is there a difference between synthetic (generic) and naturally-occurring (brand-name) drugs? Of course not. Each contains the same (active) chemicals; only the price is different.

hahah good point. I like that analogy. It is a constant struggle for me to not by that brand-name drug.
