When someone decides to take up a form of gambling, whether it be roulette or baccarat or the game of chance of choice, as the old song goes "Know when to hold 'em, ...when to fold 'em".  How does a person acquire that or at what point in the gaming experience does a person have it?

Ahem!

Funny you should mention that!  Should you care to spend a few minutes with my video today (2), you will hear me decide to bet something based on my "gambler's intelligence".

You question deserves some serious thought.

Wisdom is normally acquired after many, many siginificant failures.

It is just as important knowing when not to bet as it is to place a bet.
It is another one where you have to use your judgement and have good discipline.
The question was when do you achieve this? The answer is when YOU decide to start applying it. Be it today, tomorrow, or next week or whenever. Nobody force us to have a bet and unlike the casino who must spin every minute or so.
I sometimes play a system which give me 10 bets to hopefully make a profit at the end of the session.
Each one of these bets is a tester bet. I am just dipping my foot in the water to see if I can catch the wave. If I win the first bet, I place a second bet and so on till I have a loss. If I lose the first bet, I stop and wait to start playing again. It does require a strong mind to operate this way. I could be sitting in casino for 2 hours and lost 8 of my initial starter bets. Then I only have 2 left and I have to wait again. The advantage of this is that I do not allow a bad streak to wipe out my bank completely in one go. The game of roulette can be very up and down and even with a very good system it can still go against you for long periods of time. A player who wants to profit from roulette has to accept this fact and be able to cope with it. The casino are happy to stay open 24/7 and keep spinning the wheel. So what sort of disadvantage are you putting yourself at if you go in with no patience and just go for it when the wheel is playing against you.
When I visit any casino, I always like to get the feel of the place even if I have visited it 100 times before. I never get straight down to gambling. Have a drink, watch a game. It allows me to relax and then I am in a calm mood and ready to play. Let us just say you drove to the casino and the traffic was busy and now you are irritated. You get to the casino and you can't find a parking space. Now you are more irritated. you get to the casino and you have to wait at reception. now you are really  >:(
You get to the table and it is the dealer who you can never win against. you think he/she is in collusion with the  >:D.  You get your money out, start playing. you lose the first 5 bets. What do you think is likely to happen?  ::)
It happen to me on many occasions and then I walk out the door feeling like a real idiot. So it is very important to RELAX when you enter a casino. focus on what you are about to do and what you would like to achieve within reason.
Does all this sound silly or nonsensical. By behaving this way I have a very good ratio of winning visits versus losing visits. It is part of my gambling intelligence which I use to keep the upper hand.

I find switching tables usually helps when you get off to a bad start.

Hey thanks mate, I think that's a really good idea. I'm going to try that from now on.

I don't know what it is about the casino, but when I enter I feel this sudden adrenaline rush that tells my brain "go all in! Hurry up and put all your money on one number and win big!". Of course, my experience has told this part of my brain to F off, but I think sitting down and relaxing will give me even more self control.
