Question about the way I played

Hi I am not sure if I am posting this in the right area, if I am not then I am sorry. Anyway, I am new to roulette, and I have a question about the way that I played. I turned 21 about 2 months ago and that is when I discovered roulette. I am mainly a poker player but there is something about roulette that keeps making me go back to the wheel. A few days ago I went down to the Casino near my city ( only had American Roulette) and I played. Before I went, I spent about 2 weeks on this fourm trying to find a good system, but all of the numbers confused me. When I went to the casino I played between 4 to 5 tables. I was looking for colors to show up in streaks. When a color would show up in a streak I would bet aganist the color. So I would stand back and look at the tables and see which had a streak of four or five numbers. If i saw r,r,r,r then i would bet black or if i saw b,b,b,b then I would bet red. I ended up making about $150.00 starting with a bankroll of 10 dollars. I actually had 100 dollars with me, but I was able to only use 10 of that. But a few times the pregression got very large and I had to dip into it, but i would win so it wouldn't affect my bankroll that much. I would make five dollar bets each spin. It took me about three hours to do this though and I had to be very careful. The two bad things about the way I played were:
1.) The progression got scary for me at times. I do not have much money, so betting 50 to 60 dollars was a lot. Then If i had to double that bet it would be over 100 which would be too high. My progression was 1234 and so on. So if I bet 5 and lost, i would bet 10, if i bet 10 and lost I would bet 20, 20 and lost then 40. I do not like this because once i get beyond 40 it gets very risky. I was thinking maybe like a 111223 progression and not go beyond that.

2.) I had to pay attention to when dealers would switch. For instance if a dealer switched during a streak of five then the streak would seem to go to about 9 or 10 so I would have to wait for the streak to continue before I could bet.

Now I read that if four reds come up then u should probably bet red, but by doing the opposite of that, I had some success. I also could have bet even or odd and high or low to try and get my profit higher, but I was just trying to be safe. I just want to know from the more experianced players if this way of playing is good or if anybody has any better ideas that could help me out. I have been doing a lot of research and I plan to find something better, but until that point I think I am going to stick with this method.

thank you

Okay I'm sure every single member of this forum would tell you the exact same thing.

Never, EVER play that way again. Sorry to sound hard but it has to be said. That progression you use is called the Martingale strategy and it will work for a while until it doesn't. And when it doesn't it REALLY doesn't.

There are plenty of easy to understand systems on the forum, test some out and play with the ones you like.

Thanks for you advice...I do not like the Martingale strategy but it seemed to work for a short period of time. I will do what you said and try to find an easy system to start off with

Hi john, welcome aboard.

My advice is: stay out of the explosive systems for a start. Slow systems have the advantage of giving you time to THINK and SPOT the tram you are facing, so you can make informed decisions as to pushing at a positive tram or stopping at a clearly negative one.

Explosive systems only leave you wiped and thinking "what just happened"? :-\ Not good.

Also, be the most selective in your bets as possible. Learn the "timing" of your favorite bet selection and the gist is to use only events when they are hitting. Simply do not use what you think the wheel WILL do, but rather use current information to use what it is CURRENTLY doing. Of course, numbers per se mean nothing, it is what they do in your system/bet selection what counts and what you have to use as reference.

Always bear in mind having to win several bets to recoup or reach a new high is totally okay (i.e. stepladder progressions).

Feel free to test, study & tweak the systems around! Just stay from the "1 hit recoup all" progressions.

In the end it all boils down to what works for you.
Kind regards.
Victor

thanks for  you advice. What you said makes a lot of sense. I have been reading many forms lately, and I always see a post about a person who played like me and eventually hit a bad streak and lost all of their money. So I will now try to find something better, hopefully I will be able to make sense of all of the systems on this form.

John, just don't go blindly betting based on someone's good review! Make your own tests ALWAYS.

Look, what works like a charm to a person doesn't neccesarily works for the other for many many reasons. I.e. Mr. J. may have "them" like a horse laying very large bets at the final steps of his progressions, but others will simply chicken-out or not be properly bankrolled. Also, there is always the "personal actuals" variable. Your numbers are your numbers, so use what works FOR YOU. That's all that matters.

Start thinking what path do you want to take: flat betting? progression in risk? progression in money? reversed progressions?... also you need to define: betting the disk, betting the dealer, betting the layout? you have plenty of approaches to choose from!

And of course, what do you expect to get from gambling? Making a living? Recreation? This is your starting point! :)

Thanks again for the advice. I have been looking at so many systems over the last 2 weeks that I feel like my head is going to explode. And I have noticed that what you said about a system works for some people may not work for me. I have found a countless number of systems that people say are great, but then I try it and I do not like the system. Since I am in college I have small bankroll, Right now around 100 dollars. That is all that I have for roulette because I like to put the rest of my money in poker, so I guess I will have to try to find something that fits my bankroll. But at the same time, I have found that I like to gamble and take risks. I have noticed that it has acutally helped my poker game because I do not take as many stupid risks when playing poker. Roulette is a good way for me to get rid of my stress and gable a little but I also do not want to lose all of my money playing roulette.

I've been at roulette for the better part of a year now and the best advice i could give to a newbie is gamble to you heart's delight---on paper.  This way, you can test all the systems to you liking without losing a cent.  When you find a system you like and are comfortable with (after some serious, intense testing on paper) start with small money bets.
