Freedom, money and debt - a question for you...

This is unrelated to roulette.

Here's a question for you..

Consider a house like the following:

The floors are a simple concrete covered by insultation and carpet, so they are no different to modern houses.

The walls are thin and more like portable housing, but insultated with foam, and covered with plaster. From the inside, you can barely tell it apart from a normal brick veneer house (brick house with wood frame as almost all houses). It is well insulated and certainly strong enough for bad storms. The roof is simple tin, as many modern houses now have. From the outside, it may looks something like below:

It may be no mansion, but it can be as big as you want. It is a LOT cheaper to build, and still gives you all the creature comforts you need. If you paid for a "normal" brice veneer house of the same size, you'd pay around $350,000 (the house only, not land). But this house cost you $50,000.

It is on land that cost you about $50,000, and you have an acre of your own. So for your own house and land, you own it all for around $100,000 which isnt bad at all.

You have solar electricity and solar water heating. You dont need to be connected to the grid. If you make these yourself, a fully self-powered house with solar is about $5000. If you pay someone else to do it, it's about $15,000.

Food is produced from your land, or a comminity type farm. Just a small one with fruit and vegetables, some animals like chickens for eggs or whatever. You could live entirely on your property if needed. But you still have as job, although you dont need money anywhere as near as much because you only have a small mortage, and barely any expenses. You can have your cable tv and theater room if you want. You can still buy your popcorn or whatever, but most of what you eat is what your land produces - ie fruit and vegetables.

You wouldnt have a massive mortage for the rest of your life. You would only have a need to do limited trade, so you wont need as much money. So you live a simpler life, but you have total freedom. No need for any work or slavery. Work is more OPTIONAL and only needed if you want more of the creature comforts.

The main differences between this life and what you may have now are:

1. No huge debt
2. Freedom, and not as much need for trade or money
3. You live in a basic house. It is very similar to modern houses, except without marble or granite benches etc. Just a simple, neat house.

You'll still have your car and everything else. You and your family have everything you need.

Now the questions are would you leave your existing life for such a lifestyle? Think about it. I dont mean just hypothetically... Would you actually do it? Why or why not?

My reason for asking this is this year i'm buying land for a project like this for nolinks.universalsymbiosis.org. It will be subdivided to build housing like what is described. Communities like this are becoming more common.

The biggest restriction for this kind of thing though is local councils. For example, the have restrictions on subdivisions, what you can build on your own land etc. But in australia, local councils are actually illegal as they're not recognized by the constitution. We had a referendum that prohibited their creation, but australia voted no. Thats another story though. But lawful or not, unfortunately just because something is unlawful doesnt mean it is not permitted. A judge would favour a council over a normal person despite the laws. Thats reality, not justice. So first I would seek approval from the local council to avoid trouble. I'm sure one mayor somewhere would see the benefit of the project's goals, and allow subdivision of land for this purpose, even when the land is zoned something like agricultural (much cheaper land). After all it would be used for agriculture too.

The ultimate aim of the project is to demonstrate people can live a comfortable life with most of their usual creature comforts, but without the life of debt and slavery.

Do you want to beat roulette for the money and wealth, or the freedom money can give?
