Title: Roulette Gynecologist
Post by: admin on March 09, 2008, 12:47:41 AM
The Curtain Rises

[smiley=huh.gif] A pregnant woman appears.

¿What is the probability to give birth to a boy or a girl?
For the husband, it represent a 50% uncertainty.
For the gynecologist, who has previously performed a scan, he knows the result almost with 100% certainty.

The probability changes for both, because one of them has information the other does not know.

If we study roulette actuals, spin to spin results appearing at a roulette table, or experience in a casino's random environment, or just "checking" a table to deduce the streaks of luck, each one of these aspects is almost like a medical scan on randomness.

We can't deny  that somehow, conscious or unconsciously, our perception of the stream happening at a roulette table is different than the one which a very fresh newcomer –or a fortune-losing poor soul- may have.

Somehow we obtain different information.
In a certain way we are like gynecologist.
Randomness gynecologists.
Roulette Gynecologists.

The Curtain Drops

The Curtain Rises Again.

[smiley=huh.gif] This time a delivery room is observed. The environment is aseptic, risks are controlled the most -both medically and humanly- as possible.

The casino is also a randomly aseptic room, randomness is much more controlled than what meets the eye.

There are plenty of tables in game, and many players laying bets at the same time. The casino knows that by chance some will be lucky, but a higher number won't, so the casino plays with the advantage.

If there were only a single player, this one could win and the casino simply lose.

With a thousand players, it would be an unbelievable happening for the thousand of them to win. The normal tendency is for one (or a few winners) not to alter the global accounting, since the actual  impact of a single one of them on the running total can only be very dim.

For the casino, those natural variations do not bear a high importance.

For them it is the same to have a different player win each day, or each day having the same player winning, for instance, the gynecologist.

The Curtain Drops.
