'Increments Money Management Plan' by Charles Hampshire

The following is a continuation of my post here (which I suggest you read first):
nolinks://vlsroulette.com/bet-selection/how-to-find-a-consistent-winning-roulette-bet/msg33208/#msg33208

It seemed to me that Charles Hampshire's MM ideas mentioned in his website have been a bit ignored here since everyone has been focusing on finding the bet selection instead.

I'm posting this for anyone interested in his website because I believe that his so called "Bet[smiley=engel017.gif]" has a lot to do with a Money Management Strategy rather than a mere mechanical bet selection. So I hope this gives it some more attention.

Note: Anything in blue are comments added by me as attempts of clarification, since Charles seems to sometimes use a terminology that is a bit different than the one we commonly use in this forum.

Here we go:

Charles' "Increments Money Management Plan"

I - Definitions:

(1) Stake (bankroll) is the maximum amount of money to be committed during any particular gambling venture.
No money allowed that is vital to the family. No car payment money. No rent money. No food money etc. If such money is bet, the player will lack courage when the going gets tough.

(2) Increment is your stake broken down into small equal amounts. You approach a gaming table with the first increment. You try to launch the increment into a win streak. When you eventually lose an increment you must leave the table. Try to preserve the increment through small losing streaks. Treat the betting of each increment as an isolated episode. By only allowing the house to win a small amount of money at one time you artificially break off the house's win streaks. On a lucky day it does not matter how small the increment is. On a lucky day the player will win big with attack betting.

(3) Attack Betting means you will always be thinking of increasing your bets.  (Otherwise big wins are impossible). The increment system strictly controls your losses. This allows the player to bet heavily with controlled risk (as heavily as possible with the limited money available). A win streak will move the player into the high range of available bet size. It is the player, not the house, who will decide the size of the bets. Any excuse is a good excuse to increase bet size. Play your hunches. Bet with confident abandon whenever you start to win. Always try to turn a big win into a much bigger win. Total GREED when you are winning is vital. The Home Pocket will save you.  (risking the casino's money during winning streaks is totally recommended)

(4) Home Pocket is where the player keeps the accumulated winnings. As you bet and win, set aside a portion (50%? ;)) of your winning bets into the home pocket. All home pocket money goes home. All wins, large and small are thereby safeguarded. The percentage of your winning bets that you should set aside will vary from 30% to 70% (Bingo! this is a 'variable' version of Victor's 50% Plan. Here we vary that percentage according to the current streaks. Plus, here we apply the plan during the play itself. hmmm... Nice!). For instance, set aside 30% if you are optimistic about winning. The other 70% will be used for heavy betting (exploding the BR). Set aside up to 70% is you are pessimistic. Only 30% will be available for increased bets. Follow your hunches on home pocket contributions.  (The home pocket can be a friend or spouse who periodically picks up and cashes in home pocket winnings). Naturally when you are on a losing streak there will be little money available for the home pocket.

(5) Waiting Period is the very small price you pay under the hidden factor system. The house will have its win streaks. On other occasions the player will be barley holding his own. This results in dull waiting periods. Being bored is not fun, but it is a lot better than being a loser. (Ok, we protect our money when we see a bad cycle and risk it only on good ones. This is strategy/situational play. I have no more doubt about it.)

II - How it Works:

1. The house wants to confine the player to a narrow range of bet size (table limits/range). The hidden factor system makes systematic use of the entire range of available bet size.

2. "Increment" is the system device designed to counter house betting rules and safeguard the player.

3. You have chosen a basic stake (base betting unit). Your stake can be any amount you choose depending on your financial resources (the betting unit amount depends on the bankroll). Let's say (just for example) you choose £800.

4. Let us assume that you split the £800 into £40 increments. Play the smallest increment that can reasonably work in a given situation. During periods of bad luck a large increment will not help. During periods of good luck a small increment will build up rapidly (the size of increments depends on the current cycle/streak. Up as you win, reduce as you lose).

5. All win streaks must be played out in full. Once the player has a win streak in progress the player must play on until the small, originating increment is 100% depleted. The home pocket will hold the win. Even if the win streak starts to ebb, the player does NOT have the option to quit.

6. Win streaks are too important to allow intuition to interfere. The only defense option allowed is to (a) temporarily decrease bet size and/or (b) temporarily contribute a greater percentage of winning bets (up to 70% for instance) to the home pocket. It is mandatory to try to ride out temporary losing streaks. It is mandatory to always try to go on to a super massive win.

7. Win streaks will ebb and flow. This is where the player must have courage. Attack betting must be resumed as soon as possible. Win streaks must always be allowed every possible chance to build up to huge proportions. The rare, massive win must not be missed.

8. Big win streaks can last for hours and even days (he also tracks the streaks/cycles on the wider scope of sessions/days, not just the momentary outcomes of the session at hand, and reacts to them as well. This is good). Huge wins are possible. The biggest win streaks do not happen every day. Be mentally prepared when your moment arrives. It will not arrive on cue. It will sneak up on you at some unexpected time.

9. Win streaks tend to be tiring for some players. This is caused by the fickle nature of luck. Suppress your fear tendencies. Communicate your confidence to the game and keep on playing. Remember that your existing win is safe in the home pocket.

10. Try to get betting limits raised during win streaks. You may or may not be successful. Keep trying. Be polite.

11. ATTITUDE IS VERY, VERY IMPORTANT. The player who expects to win will win. The player needs to be free from care and worry. (Fact)

12. The size of a win the player must shoot for must be massively larger than stake and increment. This is a vital theoretical concept. The house wins will be much more numerous, but small.

13. Imagine a situation in which the player is £15,000 ahead on a win streak. Gradually the pit boss and other club personnel become aware. They take some action which serves to interrupt play. If the player is prevented from continuing play, the hidden factor system has suffered a devastating blow. The rare, massive win must not be artificially terminated. Note: Play only in good regulated casinos.

14. Each increment can be bet only once. With a £800 stake and £40 increments, you can only approach a table 20 times on an individual gambling venture. After expending each increment you must leave the table. After 20 trips to the table your gambling is over for this time. This rule causes the totality of gambling activity to be rationally related to the amount of player resources available. Resist breaking this simple rule.

15. Stop playing when the house has completely won an increment. Leave the table. Play again later with a new increment. Rely on your hunches as to when and where to begin playing again.

16. The £800 stake combined with £40 increments is merely an example. The player may use many different combinations.

17. There are waiting times when the house is snatching your increments right and left. These periods are not much fun. This is the strength of the system. The house is on a win streak and you are not a big loser. Losing streaks are inevitable. Only small money is involved. STRONG PLAYERS are not affected by these small losses. These losses are the price paid on the way to a big win.

18. There is a limit to the theoretical size of an increment. An increment of £300 would be too large, for example, if the maximum bet were only £500. You need space between increment size and maximum bet to allow for progressively larger bets during win streaks (an up as you win plan is involved, provided you keep it within the table range at all times/possible scenarios. Hence the following warning to high rollers):.

19. High rollers beware. Large increments require HUGE maximum bets. Normally the clubs are too smart to allow huge bets (except in upstairs rooms with known losers). For this reason high rollers must always be losers. High rollers are left bucking the odds without the compensation of streaks.

20. Treat each increment with care. Do not let the increments blur together.Try to give each increment a serious chance at becoming the one to achieve a huge win.

21. Keep your mind clear. Concentrate on the game. Play your hunches.  (good 'hunches' are gained by experience)

Knowing what to do when losing IS what makes the difference on the long-term average for the astute player. This is a sound way to play. You surf losing streaks by not betting at the worse times and flat betting the min when you are unsure. You only enter for real at the times your system is prone to concentrate hits (yes, this is considered a fallacy, as there is no accepted timeline for roulette, it is considered a 1-spin game only... well, those thinking that way will keep on betting that sleeper number till the end of their bankroll while someone astute will only lay chips at the statistical attack zone placed at the "belly" of the gaussian distribution, only losing when the bad deviations happens over and over; losing the least possible, that is, as these times are perfectly spotted).

Also, part of the winning is a matter of riding concentration of hits in full as charles states. Hot locations do not observe probability in the short term too much, do they? :)

Marven,

Good posting. I understand what he means. Let's say you go to the casino and take 50,- with you. You decide to play tables where you're following colours after a switch (rrr/bb/rr/bbbbb/rrr->b (now we bet black because the table is switching colour and we're in a serie).

When you divide your 50,- into 5 pieces of 10. After a win, double your bet with the casino's money. You only need to win 3 bets in a row to leave with a winning.

Bet 1: 10,- win
Bet 2: 20,- win
Bet 3: 40,- win
80 - 10 = + 70,- for only 3 win's in a row, that can happen easily when you're on a winning streak.

My last two visits to the casino I played this way (not doubling my bets I was flat betting, if I had doubled I would have left with more than 1k).

Combined with a strong bet, you can make big winnings.

Hi JHM mate,

That is indeed a smart way to play, money management wise. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I especially like his idea of varying the percentage of redistributing the winnings between reinvestment and savings by 30 to 70% according to the current streak of both: the current session at hand (bet management) and the wider scope of many sessions (bankroll management). I intend to experiment more with this approach and see if a long term improvement over the static 50% version can be achieved.

As for dealing with the game itself and reacting to the cycles while playing, check out the link Victor posted above. ;)

You  know that the best way to double your BR is to place all on an even money bet, you have 48.5% of chance.

If you divide your BR in small bets you`re lowering your chance to double your money.

Check the %s. You could read John Haigh book.

Ive seen John Patrick and others talk about regression systems. Up and pull. On a win pull some money back (variable amount) and rebet some of the won money - the same as whats been said here.

About the bet selection, Charles says he places four bets (or something like that). Could it be action numbers? Betting 3 corner bets(2 units) and 1 sixline/street(3 units). This bet has been covered before and I know it's not perfect but it can cover alot of the wheel leaving usually only 1 space between numbers.
Just a thought....

TAMINO3

John Patrick`s  Action numbers  are very impressive. They are number ONE on my list due to the favorable  distribution of the numbers on the  wheel .

I also would like to point out that within the action numbers are l3  Black and  9 Red.

Great for  short term play to walk away a winner.

Has anyone tried using Charles's MM stategy with following the last 2 dozens that hit? I did, and worked pretty well. Haven't put it to a real test. It probably helps alot of systems.
