Title: Trying popup windows
Post by: VLSroulette on June 19, 2009, 07:00:59 PM
Hello guys,

Trying popup windows to (hopefully) cover expenses in full.

Regards and hope they don't bother that much.  :)

Basically, my new project is to develop to the full potential to what I can provide web-based and sponsor it with ads.

-yes- this includes forums and web apps.

If things go smooth, we can enjoy bigger and better servers as the main website grows.

I'll start messing with our forum's sourcecode to get things back tomorrow. Just wanted to provide at least one day without technical interruptions (today).

Hey! I'm still the forum's "I.T. guy" :)

Thanks mates.

If I succeed, we succeed.

My "forum skills" are to go up and on the rise as I am becoming a multiforum provider :)

Also, I'm seriously thinking in making VLSroulette.com part of the multiforum! So I never really get away and get attached to it for the full existence, and it can bring new fresh members to our community as a plus.

By this integration, the forum improvements I code for the multiforum, are to be reflected here (I.e. custom avatar browser, etc.), as well as every "goodie" we get to enjoy by growth of the multiforum (for instance, an eventual strong upgrade to voice and video-chat): we get that too.

We ALL benefit from this move mates. There is a great opportunity for perpetuation to be achieved by us here as well by being part of it, so this is a BIG WIN for this community too.

If we all become a "big family" at the multiforum, then the better.

These days are turning as the start to great times...

Arrrg! Are you guys getting many popups per session?

Is it only international traffic or are you USA-guy getting that too?

I get one every single mouse click, really annoying. (UK)
Phil

Crap. It was ment once PER SESSION.

Gotta take this down until I sort it out. The advertising company didn't cap their own script...

Okay, just took the popup script down.

It was supposed to come ONCE per session, regardless of how many pages were clicked/surfed.

Geez, now I have to develop an in-house script to cap those properly.

LoL, yes.

I don't know how will I do when I become the technician for like a hundred forums... That's were I'm leading, already bought the domains and started setting the infrastructure to offer multi-forum hosting...

Hopefully the pay won't suck and in exchange for "losing my mind" in coding issues, I get a fair life for my family :)

Then I can gamble recreationally and -glad to say- in peace.

Darn it!

I'm trying to cap them without actually messing with the advertising code...

One popup per session (global forum visit) is the goal. Shutting the pops again.

The good thing with popups is that content is separated from the ads.

What I have in mind is one visit, the popup shows ONCE, and it is automatically sent behind the website. People surfs the website as usual and then only after closing the forum do they see the ad.

This keeps our pages clean in exchange for some attention to the ads AFTER forum visit is over.

I'm trying to not mess up the advertising code irself as they would not pay. Rather I'm working in "capping" via our website's code... working on it, thanks for noticing and caring mate :)

Or perhaps you are one of our forum's direct sponsor...  ;)

I'm coding the script not to show ads to members of the sponsors group.

Ohhhh, nice bonus Vic!  I was wondering why I hadn't seen a single pop up yet...  I thought the same as Mr. J (that I just had a fantastic Pop-Up blocker).

Thanks!

You may get some while debugging, but final script won't show you any ads, in-page or popup :)
