Hey all, I just wanted to post a huge Thank You to everyone that contributes to this board, specifically to Victor and Lanky since I've gained the most benefit so far from their teachings. I'll probably go off on a tangent now, but before I get into a lengthy post, I just wanted to say that first. 'preciate you!!!
And now a little bit of history...
Basically, I'm not much of a gambler. In fact, I probably visit a casino once or twice a year and that was usually some special occasion. My game of choice over the years has become roulette and I began playing even-money bets with low money using the Martingale system before I even knew there was such a system. One day, a friend of mine saw what I was doing and told me it had a name. Anyway, I had success with it grinding out some profits, but as you all know, the system eventually catches you at your bankroll limit and I would stop trying it for a while.
A couple weeks ago, I started thinking about this again and began looking for a better method. That is when I found this site. I never knew there could be so much to roulette, but this was what I was looking for - a place that supported grinding out profits with smaller bankrolls. Yay!
Anyway, it took me a while to read and reread all of the posts and I even found the old archived board to get a better understanding of the different methods used. Eventually, I took a small bankroll of $300 and decided to try out some things I learned. Here is an account of my first 4 sessions after discovering the teachings of the VLS site...
(By the way, I live in America and I'm only playing in smaller land-based casinos)
Session 1
I started with a $300 bankroll with no real goal in mind. I just wanted to see what I can try using the LW method. I didn't fully understand the patterns, so I just played when an LL showed. I think Lanky called this the "G Method" of betting for a "w" after an LL and if it loss, try once more for the "w", but betting no more than twice.
It was a slow night, but I was able to watch the board on 2 tables and jump in for a bet when I saw one of them had the LL. I didn't have many bets, but most of them won. In two hours, I bet about 13 times - 12 won and 1 loss (meaning there was an LLLL). Overall, I gained $100 and was pleased. I guess there was something to this LW method after all. Heh.
Session 2
Armed with my $400, I decided to try the LL betting again. The same results came. I then started to raise my bets and in about 2 hours after betting about 14 times, I had 13 wins and 1 loss again, gaining $225 and raising my bankroll to $625.
Most of my bets were $25 & $25 to gain $25. If the first bet lost, I would bet $50 & $50 to break even, but losing that meant I needed to win another 6 times to recoup what I loss. Luckily, most bets were winners.
Session 3
I consider this session to be my learning experience. After gaining some confidence in what I was doing, I started to make some $50 initial bets and my profits began to rise substantially, except this day was really slow at the casino and I was getting impatient (not something you should do at the roulette table). Anyway, since I was not seeing many LLs for the dozens, I started looking at columns, but I was having trouble keeping track of which numbers fell in which columns. I eventually spotted an LL and played for the "w", but lost. (Here is where it started to go wrong). I just wanted to win one more before leaving, so I followed up my bet with 3 times the initial bet and lost again. Being even more frustrated, I deviated from the system that has worked for me and made a third bet using all but $200 of my bankroll and lost a third time. My $650+ bankroll fell to $200 in 3 spins.
Oh well, I guess that will serve as a reminder to "stick to the system" that is working. To make matters worse, I realized I was playing the "w" wrong as well. After the LL, I would make the bet for a "w", but if it loss, I would make the same bet even though a new "w" is actually different than the first bet, meaning an LL bet is different than an LLL bet. Had I played it correctly, I would have won, so I did learn something from all of this.
But, something else good came out of this. Feeling pretty down, I decided to just have some fun and got a $100 worth of chips to play on the inside. I eventually found myself playing the 4 Number method that TurboGenius posted. I had done some testing at home and liked the system a lot.... and I started winning. The system works.
It was getting late, so I had to end the session, but I regained some of my losses and ended up only losing $245 for the session instead of the $450+ I had lost earlier.
Session 4
This time I had a plan for my $380 bankroll. Using a combination of systems, I would try to gain $150 and eventually work my way back up to a $600 bankroll over a couple more sessions. I planned to use the TurboGenius 4 Number method, the LL betting that has worked for me, and I came up with a progression to chase a sleeping dozen. If I see a dozen sleeping for 6 spins, then I would use a progression of 5-10-15-20-30-45 to gain 10 or 15 while risking 125 in total.
I usually don't jump right into the 4 number system unless I see a repeat within a dozen already on the board - it gives me a fresh start with that dozen. Since I'm at a live table, I also don't have any pen and paper to keep track of things (which is why I haven't tried to follow any LW patterns yet), so I have to keep track of numbers in my head.
I basically find an end spot on the table and I lay out 12 chips next to me, like this...
OOOO
OOOO
OOOO
These chips represent the 4 streets in each dozen, so when a street is killed (see the TurboGenius post for an explanation), then I remove the chip representing that street. For example, if the 3rd street in the first dozen is killed and the 2nd street in the second dozen is killed, then my chips look like this...
OO_O
O_OO
OOOO
This helps me remember which streets are killed and which level of betting I am on for each dozen. All I have to remember are the numbers I'm currently betting, which I just repeat so myself every spin. So far, I haven't had any trouble.
So, each spin, I place my bets for the 4 Number method, I look at the display for an LL to bet and then I see if any dozen has been sleeping for 6 spins. As for this session, I reached my goal. In fact, this was a 2 hour session and I gained $300, twice my initial goal for the session, bringing my bankroll to $680.
In the future, I'll probably begin to tweak and add to how I play, but I'm still fairly new. I'm slowly looking to maybe chasing an "L" for 3 spins after betting on LLw, but I'm not confident to start doing that yet.
In summary, I've had 3 winning sessions out of 4, with the loss because of my own impatience. I realize that this would have to continue to verify this is a working system, but so far, it has been successful, and for that, I thank you all for your teachings and explanations and I do wish you all well. You guys are great!
Thanks

Thanks for the Post mate.
You have made a Healing old Man Happy that I have at least Helped One Person in some small way.
Good On Ya Mate

Hello Krash, and [smiley=welcome/welcome.gif] to the family.
I'm glad you have find use for the Lw strategy. Remember, the best system/tweak is the one that suits you better.
It is totally OK to prefer a certain way better than others, it is an individual choice.
Like Lanky, I'm happy too to have you here.
Best regards my newest friend.

Don't understand that comment about not having pencil and paper. Why? Are you playing somewhere that has banned them? I am also in the US and I know of no such casinos. Some have no marquee, but all I've been to let you record.
Sam
Well, I don't know - I guess they allow them - I never asked. It's just that there are 2 small casinos here - one with 1 roulette table and one with 2, so it can get crowded at the table, so I haven't tried to use pen and paper to record the spins. I've just been trying to train myself to use only the display so I don't miss any bets trying to write things down.
Anyway, I'm fairly new to this, so I may begin writing things down in the future as a better means to notice patterns, but right now, I just haven't been doing it, mainly because I didn't know if it was allowed to be honest.
Thanks for the reply

From my own experience, the marqee at a casino will not always reflect the spin that came. The electronic reader will sometimes post the wrong number. I never use the marquee.
Good luck.
I use a similar method of tallying at the craps table.
