Title: Riding Coattails.....
Post by: Mr J on October 24, 2009, 02:08:00 PM
Are you one to ride another players coattail if he/she is doing well at roulette? Meaning, you follow almost every bet they make, perhaps even a little extra than you are use to betting? Myself, I HATE it when its done to me but thats another thread I guess. Good question here, any thoughts? Ken

There is a way to ride without being so blatant and directly bothering the other player.

Cover the majority of the numbers from target player discretely with double-street and street bets (plus perhaps 1 or 2 more non-target bets).

It doesn't draw as much attention as straight-up cloning :)

It happened to me this summer, but vice versa.
Italian guy with his wife/tourists/walked in to the table, bought the chips
and after few losing spins,I hear his wife telling him to punt on my chips,
as have previously won few hands. Was playing 2 columns with corr. color,
and had a streak of 9 conseq. wins...Italian all excited, and me kind of queasy,
and when the streak finished I went for a caffe-smoke break. When returned back
to the table Italian guy didn't continue to play but wait for my return.I sat at the table and cashed in.

I remember Victor once mentioned something about spanish players doing that. Betting with the winners/against the losers. I believe it's no different than tracking a bunch of bet selections and following what's winning.

No by the way, I never do that, and I don't mind people following my bets, unless they're actually tracking/recording my bet selection as well, that'd be kind of annoying to me, I'd switch tables as soon as possible.

Dragons & Worms...

The Chinese have been doing it for centuries. Baccarat is ideal for it.

This might sound nasty, but I prefer the opposite. Bet against the Worm (big loser with poor attitude).

I find these losers are easier to spot and far more consistent.

Wise decision.

I remember Manrique mentioning a certain spaniard player who kept track of the players (not the game!) and telling something like: "What side of the table do you think those last chips are going to end at?"

Once some asked "isn't that taking advantage of another person's disgrace" and the player told him: "it is bound to happen anyway".

Of course, the "miracle event" can also happen. Until the very last chip is gone, there is always the possibility of a change of direction in the tide which gets the player on top again, even with a couple chips left, but if you observe enough, more people leaves the table without any single chip than people who miraculously recoup.

But say there is someone who has struggled for hours at an even-chance proposition and his units are going down, down, down... to the very final ones.

If you cover the opposite even chance + zero with some money management, perhaps the smart player can make some units riding the opposite of such negative tram = a positive tram for the anti-player.

I've thought of doing it on a couple of occasions that I've been losing.  Like today with a guy that won 5 bets in a row on the dozens ($100 each bet).  He lost the 6th bet, which started a losing streak, and I won that 6th bet and went on a nice winning streak.  If you're confident in your method, I would generally ignore others.  If not go ahead and copy.  They might blame you, though, if you both lose.

Personally, I couldn't think of many more rewarding or satisfying things in a casino than seeing someone else win some money thanks to my game.

It is absolutely no skin off my nose, so why would I begrudge a little prosperity towards others?

Except for the many rude ones, I'd rather see everyone beating the casino than the other way around.  I rarely notice anyone copying me, though.  Usually most of my chips are in my pockets and I'm moving from table to table so I'm probably under most people's radar.
