Title: What kind of devices is usually allowed playing roulette in land casino?

Pocket calculators are OK? what about stuff like smartphones, PDA? Do they watch programmable scientific  handheld caluclators? like student  use for graphs and stuff.

If you have any form of device out at a roulette table you will be watched like a hawk, just hold your phone towards the wheel and watch the pitbosses reaction, ofcourse he will not say anything untill you start winning or you are blatantly using your device.

Devices are never "permitted", legal or not. So application is completely hidden. You typically use a device with a toe switch.

even a small calculator won't do? to calculate bets?

A pencil, paper and your brain is all thats allowed. And if your brain works really good, you'll get banned.
