Title: Homeless observation at my casino
Post by: Mr J on June 19, 2010, 10:06:08 PM
Yep, I guess I'm getting low on new material. lol Anyways, I notice something ALOT near my local casino here in town. We have homeless (or pretending) with cardboard signs, asking for money. They are usually located at the red lights and I really could careless what they do with their time.

Here is the part I dont think they have thought through..... Where do you think they are standing? They are at the EXITS of the casino. I would think, standing near the entrances would 'pay better'. Of course you on-line guys won't have a clue what I'm talking about. Ken

In their tiny minds, I'm sure they think casinos have more winners than losers. Or they think some big jackpot winner will feel generous.  In Vegas the homeless aren't allowed to panhandle near the casinos, so they go thru them looking for slots where people left money in. I was sitting at a slot 2 weeks ago waiting for my wife to leave and I noticed the pay light was lit and somebody had abandoned $47 in the machine I was sitting at. Thanks, I said. I never told my wife because she would have wanted to lose it, just like she loses all the money she brings.

One of our current affairs programs recently ran a story on beggars. Some of them were making in excess of $1000 a week when added to their social security payments.

In Australia social security payments are direct deposited into each recipient's bank account. You are entitled to have a bank account even with no fixed residential address. Many homeless people are linked in with the OPC "office of protective commissioner" and have their security payments doled out to them piecemeal over several days at a time to stop them spending it all as soon as they get it. Many homeless people are also on disability pensions and require no further correspondence with the social security office to maintain ongoing payments.

So all you need is a bank account, and proof that you're a looney to get  the cash!

I think they get about $1350+ a month, plus subsidized medicines, a dollar a day public transport, etc.

They're homeless and make 1350 a month? It doesn't make sense.

I remember in early 60-thys-when I arrived there as an emigrant, there was no job,and we recieved
social payments each week---but as Balkan characters/cheaters/we would be getting several weekly
payments on different names and addresses. There wasn't computer evidence these days, all by hand.
But that was when we were young and crazy.BTW-am talking about others,me never.

I don't really know how it is in the states, but I suspect homelessness is more of a socio-economic problem there. In Australia it is a sad fact that a large % of homelessness is due to mental illness.

Many homeless people are simply too f**d  up in the head to maintain a residence. They still get financial aid regardless.

If I was begging outside a casino I'd be at the exit for sure. At the entrance you might get the odd donation from people who believe it might help their Karma and so help them win if they are charitable, but most people want all there cash for the tables, poker machines, booze, etc.

At the exit you stand the chance that a few big winners happen past and freely donate because they are cashed up to the hilt and happy as pigs in mud.
