Here you can find out if you are a compulsive gambler.
You can read this 20 questions list of Gamblers Anonymous: nolinks://nolinks.gamblersanonymous.org/20questions.html (nolinks://nolinks.gamblersanonymous.org/20questions.html)
I made this post here because there exist a shadow, a dark side of the gambling industry.
Here is the adress to the site Gamblers Anonymous: nolinks://nolinks.gamblersanonymous.org/ (nolinks://nolinks.gamblersanonymous.org/)
Feel free to reply how you did with the 20 question, if you want, remember to be honest to your self.
Most compulsive gamblers will answer yes to at least seven of these questions.
Cheers LS
Hi Lucky!,
I've read the 20 questions and I'm happy to have answered "yes" to only one question:
"After losing did you feel you must return as soon as possible and win back your losses?"
I think this post is great as it makes you think a little bit more WHY are you playing roulette, WHAT it takes you in your lifetime to play roulette and other things that may change the way of living due to roulette.
Great Post mate!
All the best!

True, If gambling made you sell systems or rights to use system [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif]
I think this is very important. We like to cheer on gamblers when they win a lot of money, but what happens when bettors feel they MUST win. The erratic behavior that follows multiple losses of some, even Wall Street warrant immediate attention. Few like to talk about the dark side of this activity.

Well, this is here to stay as the very first thread at our very first board, so it should get some activity in the times to come...
Thanks to lucky for starting it and using his mod powers to make it a sticky. :)
im an addict myself, a pretty bad one aswell, but i think if your winning then there is reason behind your habits, but if all your ever do is lose and lose that is where the problem shows i think. anyone agree?????
I don't think i am a compulsive gambler....why i always quitte after i lost my rent / gas / eat money...!! >:D
Greetings

;) Yeah Richie, I'm not a compulsive gambler either. I always have money left for a bottle of Whiskey.........
I read once that getting addicted is a terrible thing, and getting addicted to gambling is one of the worst.......so I gave up reading.

You're like the moron who learned that most auto accidents happen within 25 miles of home.....so he moved!
(Not that you're a moron--just like a moron!) ;D
I was once a drunk.
The only question you have to ask to determine if you have any addiction is this: Am I a drunk(or to use the proper term: Am I an alcoholic so my insurance will pay for my additcion)/an addicted gambler/an addicted pornographer/___________?
If you have to ask the question, you are!
Sam
Hey Sam,
I wanted to say in this post how much I liked Bago but I already posted it so I couldn't.
Those questions I have to ask myself.................................what were they again........I also forget what mix I enjoy with my Whiskey so now I just have it on the rocks. I heard the other day it was gonna be 115 degrees in the shade so I stayed out of the shade the whole day.
I tell ya mate it gets so hot here you have to take your car out of the sun or you will burn valves. Yeah, the other day I was driving too fast and the bungi cord we use for seatbelts didn't seem to work when I hit that tree.....both me and the missus's eyes left wet spots on the windscreen....But we are tough here in Africa. I use to be a spy as well. I use to be so undercover I use to write my name with an eraser. My dad is quite an important person here. He has 5000 people under him. He works in the cemetary. I would like u guys to know that I'm typing this post slowly cause I know you guys cannot read that quickly.
shucks! I have to go now. The kettle is going and if I screw up that moonshine..........the whole town will be angry.....the last guy who screwed up was...... well let's just say he is not a guy anymore.....

Yes, Mr Chips, you are addicted.
Why does the word "addiction" always carry a negative connotation?

Good question, maybe because it implies a lack of self-control?
But then, what if you're addicted to self-control? :-\
I'm gladly not addicted to gambling nor do I think I will ever be so. :)
Wish you all the best!

Most people automatically thinks you're losing tons of money if you tell them that you're going to the casino.

Tell them you're steadily winning and they will want to send along a bet or two!!

Great to hear, mate.
A long time ago...
I was at my local casino with my best friend, I had been at the casino for 4 hours with a BR of 100 Euro and just made them become 200 Euro.
Then my friend comes and spend 30 minutes or was it 1 hour... with me and he lose 800 Euro in that short time of period.
He told me he hade to go home because he was not feeling so good.
That maked me not feel so good because it was me ho invite him to have some fun with me at our local casino.
This was the first time I realize that my best friend was a compulsive gambler and did never ask him again to join me to chill out at our local casino.
He told me what happen and a long story short, he just wanted more and could not quit playing.
Now I smoke and we have a special room for that in our local casino.
One time there was a man and hes wife, maybe girlfriend, they hade lost 2500 Euro and making new plans how to win it back.
I stand there and hear all about it.
Just thougt for my self with a humbel touch, idiots or was it poor humans.

Your mate,
Marven
At the risk of sounding like I'm also in denial......
Is there any distinction between:
Old mate down at the pub pumping the dollars into the pokies
and
Us lot here that generally speaking, play with a structured system and disciplined money control - which when successful gives more of a sense of achievement than a "yes - I won $20!!!" feeling?
Or are we just as bad? :-\

I think this test is great to do now, and after a while. If you answer more that the previous time it's obvious you're getting an addiction. Than maybe you should step away from the game for a while. I have 4 questions anwerd with yes.

Matty, you should first be able to beat the wheel consistently before even thinking in making it to PRO. You don't quit your for becoming a pro, you become a PRO and then when making more than your job, you can start thinking in quitting.
My most sound advice to anyone reading is this.
Besides,
being a PRO is just like a job too. At times you feel
forced to go to the casino in order to keep the monthly average and that feels like being forced to go to the office. If you don't love it to your bone, you will dislike it. That is the difference, if you are a gambler at heart, then that's a blessing, if you aren't, then that will be just like another "job curse".
Some people can win consistently, some can't (yes, there is such a thing like personal luck), if you are from those who can, then you can make it; if you can't by all means just treat it as a lifetime hobby.
Kind regards.
I am one of those who can and I refuse to see myself as anything else than a short time investor since it's not often that I put a "gamble"-bet :-\
But according to that questionary I'm a compulsive gambler.
Either way, it's always important to try and keep an open attitude even towards the fact that you might be in trouble with what you do... Even if it gives you that extra luxury. I don't think I'll quit my job for quite some time just yet ::) (thanks Sam)

Was there a "don't" left out of this sentence? "I think I'll quit my job for quite some time just yet.." ;)

well im compulsive all time what a hell im still loosing i dont know why )))))))) :angry2: :angry2: :angry2:
Yeah you bet I am !!!! ;D
I've been non-stop gambling since Feb (this 2009), i've been tracking my progress so I can see how profitable I can be.
Yes there are ups and downs, and the hardest part is keeping your head on when there's some really bad beats.
But the best motto is, continious small wins, compounding on themself.
A dollar won, is better than a dollar lost.
So yeah I'm addicted :)
This a copy paste from Testing Zone ... i was talking to Sam
"a "problem" gambler is someone who is addicted to losing. Now please give me a minute to explain, stop your internal dialog right now! and listen.
Humans get addicted to their emotional state, whether you perceive this to be good or bad, does not matter. The same parts of your brain are active when you are addicted to anything, whether it be cocaine, stamp collecting, OCD, any addictive behavior. The neural peptide chemicals released from your brain (aka emotions) flood the entire body and a reaction is felt, this goes for any emotional state, love, hate, envy, the list goes on and on.
So, to the point. A "problem" gambler is a person who (most of them) is addicted to the state of losing. The emotional state of losing is very intense, and they are addicted to it. As far as THEY perceive, they want to win, but their body craves to lose, to get that next "high".
I am currently helping a friend with this issue. I keep telling him, I do not want him to give up gambling (because he is actually quite good at it, assuming I am there to pull him away when he has a good profit). He like many others, are addicted to losing. So his "problem" is his addiction to losing, NOT gambling. So basically, I am getting him to play under my supervision and making him walk away every time as a winner. My theory is that eventually, he will break his addiction to losing and become addicted to winning. Since he is very good at getting profit in a short period, if he is addicted to winning, the feeling he will get when he is in profit will create an emotional state of well being and he will actually WANT to walk away a winner.
Time will tell....
@ Sam, mate, remember, its not gambling that's the problem, its your own emotions.... get addicted to the right ones Wink"

Thankyou poit.
Agree with all the above and I know how hard it is to control.
I would say that yes I am still a compulsive gambler, however I have improved in my PERFECT LOSER mentality.
I remember a thew years back. I was in and out the bookmakers more times than you can imagine.
anyway I remember this one time making my friend come in the bookmakers with me. he knew I was bad he was shaking his head before I even put the £10 in the roulette machine. (lost money the day before.and this £10 I leant of my dad).
anyway after 10-20mins I got my last £10 up to £80.
''''
collect, collect matt, wow matt your mad why dont you collect, stupid, you need money save it, lend me £20 please for a thew days'''''
ALL of these comments went in one ear and out of the other I just smiled asif nothing was wrong(perfect losing) I think ill be o.k I wont lose £80 BUT BANG in a thew mins and a long run of R,B,R,B,R,B,R,B,R,B,R,B,R,B, = :'(.
I know I only lost £10 on this occasion but it was all me and my friend had and I wasted it as usual.
ill shut up in a min I just have to say one last thing.
IF ANYONE IS HAVING PROBLEMS LIKE I USED TO, KEEPING OUT OF THE BOOKMAKERS AND GOING ON THE ELECTRONIC ROULETTE. THEN GO TO THE COUNTER AND SAY CAN YOU BAN ME FROM THIS BOOKMAKERS FOR THE NEXT 6 YEARS. TAKES 5MINS TO DO.trust me it will save you money, keep your frineds and you will feel less stressed inside.
MATTJONO
Well, doubtless it is much more complicated than poit has expressed, but, YES, most gamblers are addicted to losing. Add to that addiction a lesser education and you have probably identified the largest group of compulsive gamblers.
Indeed.... most gamblers don't even know the true odds of the game they are playing. a big big no no... especially the baccarat players, most of them have no idea of what the house edge is.
In order to conquer anything in life, one must understand what it is he/she wants to conquer. Understanding is the key for solutions.
Gambling is like a addiction . Once you get addicted you will search for money just to gamble.
I answered yes to about 15 of the 20 questions.
BUT
If I answered the questions in relation to the last 6 months of my life it would be NO to all of them.
In other words I fixed the problem. 8)
Humans have a strong emotional center, and because of this, people in power take advantage. The advantage doesn't just sit in the house edge, it is everything! Everything from the colour of the carpet, to the music that they play, to the dress code of the dealers, to the drinks and food they serve (wether it be free or paid for) the promotion rewarding systems you name it! probably even how the toilets are designed. They ALL center around ONE thing and ONE thing only! TO CONTROL YOUR EMOTIONAL STATE! once they have you! your soul is lost to the devil.
In short:
Control your emotional state = take the casino to the cleaners!!!
Really dont need to read the questions. the answers YUP :diablo:
