Hello guys,
There will be some expected downtime because of upgrade. I'll do my best in keeping the lowest, but you never know.
The forum is to remain open until the very moment of moving, then database will be locked. Please do not make your most important post today... save it for tomorrow!
Today we hang out and enjoy new server. Thanks to all sponsors this is a reality.
May we continue to grow and consolidate as the roulette community server for the long run.
Hooray!
Your very happy forum admin.

Ron.
As an insurance measure I did extend current shared plan to one month to stay as a secondary backup server, as we will be going to unmanaged hosting (more bang for the buck, as tech assistance does inflate managed hosting prices).
Anyway, one extra month should suffice to iron any issues we could have when setting up the new server shall I mess with installation of PHP, MySQL or any other software. As a matter of fact, as I'll be in charge I'll go minimalistic on server-side features this time, aiming only at PHP, MySQL and forum core, it should allow us to have the most resources open for what we like it: processing data!
Good thing with managed host is you have somebody to complain. This time with unmanaged I'll be the only one responsible for the service. They basically only grant they are to plug-in the server and ensure there's internet on it.
Now I'll really be the "Admin".
For those who may ask, this upgrade isn't a whole box, but locking resources in a XEN virtualized environment, which means there's really no crowding on resources and no fight over processing power, it is all there for us, used or not. We get exactly what we hire, we can't "burst" resources from neighbor idle accounts as well as they can't burst ours, peak or non-peak times. Fair enough.
Database corruption, conectivity issues and other crowding-related shared-hosting issues should be a thing of the past [smiley=im/v6p.gif]. We can now grow confident. Shall we need further upgrades we do it bit by bit, as time goes by.
As long as there's support our future looks bright, at least on the technical side [smiley=thumbup.gif] .
Good times for our board not only ahead, but right now! ;)
Regards,
Victor
Thank you Victor
May the force be with you :)
