Title: More bad luck
Post by: Jakkalsdraai on February 20, 2009, 06:25:59 AM
End of last year I lost my Collie dog because of an infection in her pancreas. She was only 4 years old. That was a great loss to our family as she was my oldest son's best mate. They went everywhere together.

Well now more bad news. My black Alsation "Winston" went in for an op to be neutered.

He now has infection after the op and he has to have another major operation. His whole hind quarters are swollen and the vet reckons that "Winston" has about a 50% chance to survive the operation. Reason being that he is too weak at the moment. The problem is whatever medication they have given him to improve his strength so that they can operate has not worked. He has been at the vet's for 3 days now. So now the vet has to make the decision to operate or not. They putting him on a drip this morning and if he does not look better by midday they are going for the operation.

I know this is just a dog but it is my best mate and he has physically protected my wife against a burglar when I was away. (About 2 years ago) Let's just say that burglars arm and face will not look the same again. Why did i have him neutered? Well because neighbors were complaining about him jumping the wall and looking for some female dog ass....... Apparently not the easiest customer to show away either lol.

Anyway please leave a thought for Winston.

Cheers
Jakk

Jakk,

Best wishes from me and my family for Winston to come through this. As you say, he is a dog, but he is also a valued member of your family.

All the best mate.

I know what it's like to lose a family pet. Fingers crossed for you.

Had a holiday in South Africa last year, had a fabulous time.

Thanx MX,

Not so good news. He will be operated 3pm. They will only use gas as an anaesthetic. Apparently he is too weak for normal anaesthetics. He seems to be weakening the whole time. I don't know what those vets f*cked up but it's pretty clear that he has a very small chance of pulling through. I asked them what happened and they are very vague. Man they could of operated like three days ago. Assholes.

Hi guys thank you for all the well wishes. Winston made it through the operation yesterday afternoon. The vet then gave him a 60% chance of survival. Unfortunately he had a relapse at 11pm and went into semi-coma. He died at 4am this morning. My wife and myself went to say goodbye at 7 am. Jeez guys a simple neuter. Just still do not understand. Anyhow that is that.

A simple neuter........

Someone, somewhere did not practice sterile technique.  My opinion only.....

In human hospitals they call it staph infection.  You get it from the hospital staff.  Many die each year of infections that should have been prevented.

Sorry, Jakk.  Hate to hear it.

Well Jakk, very sad news indeed.

Please do receive my condolences.

May you and your family remember winston for the long run. They really are family members.

Also, please take your time to heal when you consider it is time to heal my mate. I have a no-rushing policy over these situations. Each one must devote enough time to them to be certain they are honored enough and mind can be at peace.

Your friend in all times.
Victor

Winston...died at 4am this morning.

Sorry about that Jakk.  I lost two terriers, both very painful memories.  It feels like a human being has died when you have those strong emotions.  This too will pass, though.

Hi Jakk

Sorry hear of you lost. Our animals do surely have a special place in our harts and lives. In my occupation i am lucky enough to have a dog as partner and when i work he is always with me and we have a strong bond. Here is a nice poem for you.

~ A Dog's Prayer ~
Treat me kindly, mybeloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful forkindness than the loving heart of me. Do not break my spirit with astick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, yourpatience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things youwould have me do. Speak to me often, for your voice is the world'ssweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail whenyour footstep falls upon my waiting ear. When it is cold and wet, please take me inside... for I am now a domesticated animal, no longerused to bitter elements... and I ask no greater glory than theprivilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth... though had youno home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest uponthe softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land... for you aremy god... and I am your devoted worshiper. Keep my pan filled withfresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, Icannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I maystay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, shouldyour life be in danger. And, beloved master, should the Great Mastersee fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away fromyou. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me themerciful boon of eternal rest...and I will leave you knowing with thelast breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.
