LS

Yes, slow!

I thought it was just my connection as I've had so much trouble.  Guess it's the server.

Gotta ask about this issue now.

Guys, this really isn't a shared hosting account, we shouldn't be slowing down to this. I'm pretty sure this is a conectivity problem on the data center.

You can check any whois and see we are hosted on our own.

I.e. go to nolinks://nolinks.whois.net/ (nolinks://nolinks.whois.net/) or just google for any "whois" service.

It should show us resolving to our server.

Regular accounts resolve to hosting company's server.
Ours goes like this: nolinks://nolinks.whois.net/whois_new3.cgi?d=vlsroulette&tld=com (nolinks://nolinks.whois.net/whois_new3.cgi?d=vlsroulette&tld=com)

Domain servers in listed order:
     NS1.VLSROULETTE.COM
     NS2.VLSROULETTE.COM

Also, our dedicated IP address is 216.108.236.53 (nolinks://216.108.236.53/) it resolves straight as you can see. Shared accounts look like nolinks://<hosting ip>/~account/

Ah, check google, as expected they own their stuff: nolinks://nolinks.whois.net/whois_new3.cgi?d=google&tld=com (nolinks://nolinks.whois.net/whois_new3.cgi?d=google&tld=com)

Domain servers in listed order:

    ns3.google.com
    ns2.google.com
    ns1.google.com
    ns4.google.com

Check a really shared site, I.e. say roulette-king.com
nolinks://nolinks.whois.net/whois_new3.cgi?d=roulette-king&tld=com (nolinks://nolinks.whois.net/whois_new3.cgi?d=roulette-king&tld=com)

you can tell they are on IMAGINET.CA servers. You see:

Domain servers in listed order:
      NS4.IMAGINET.CA
      NS5.IMAGINET.CA

You can visit and observe nolinks://imaginet.ca/ (nolinks://imaginet.ca/) is a hosting provider offering the regular plans (personal, etc.).

Of course, we aren't by joke on servers as powerful as google's, but we own our space, it isn't a shared hoster's account, that I can ensure you, we really upgraded for the better.

Well, checking into this. Heck so many things can go wrong! I'm sure they'll reset a router or something and we'll be back fast.

Cheers.

Okay, asked for service guys to check this.

Today I restored [disc] tag, and I believe almost everything is in place software-wise (only a couple more tags to restore, fix avatars).

Hope we can actually get to the point of running smooth after all, hardware-wise too. Thanks for reporting Lucky, Sam, TSK and Six.

I'm off to the casino now.  :)

Hi guys. Are we faster yet? :)

If required I'll ask them to move us physically for a better location/cluster.

Keep on reporting please. Here at Venezuela speed is okay, no problems logging in, but thing is as we are worldwide we should be fast everywhere, without any connectivity issue.

Do report! We need to make sure to serve each and everyone enters and uses the site okay. There are ears to listen and people willing to assist at the other side of the net [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif]

Regards.

It's much better today, Victor!

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 167ms, Maximum = 554ms, Average = 181ms // ~500ms yesterday!

Victor,

Your forum looks great.

Unfortunately it's pretty slow to load and navigate.

Herb, what is your country of access, and most importantly... do you have a broadband connection?

Thank you.

P.S. Thanks for your input as here at Venezuela it loads fast and I can't really tell how's performance at other countries, so this input is truly valuable. The internet has so many nodes!

I know physical data center is located in Las Vegas, Nevada (how's that for a gambling site :)) and I am pretty sure America is well covered, as for overseas connectivity, I can't really tell mate :-\ So many more factors in getting data from a computer in LV to fellow overseas user's home PC. Of course, I'm assuming all users complaining of slowness are on broadband... dialup users can EXPECT any modern site to go slow, and sadly there's nothing we can do from our side, upgrading to broadband is the only viable solution for these cases, but those already being broadband users should expect some certain level.

Right now I'm visiting from a 1500kbps connection and it loads acceptable, taking in consideration the many requests for graphs, it loads pretty okay.

Keep on reporting mates. I have told tech department we are good again, but we have to be good for everyone.

Regards.

Victor

For a while it moved fast, but now it's back to beastly slow.  When I click on "View all your x unread topics" it can take up to 20 seconds to pull them up.  Also, clicking on "home" can take a long time to display the whole board.  Even logging off is a slow process.

I am using broadband and Vista Home Premium and it is slow on both computers.

Geez, they must have two ethernet wires: one fast and one slow. As soon as I reported the site was fast again, they seem to have plugged the slow one  :o ???

I'm approaching them straight. If it was my failure as to server software setup, I'll pay their $35 rate for software installing and no more "do-it-yourself" :-[, but if it really is connectivity issue on their data center and their "poo poo", then I got my right to complain and they have to deliver. I'm mesmerized. Their structure really is capable of delivering fast connectivity, I really dont' know what's with them changing our connection or something weird lke that ??

We are supposed to be done with these type of hardware-wise issues by now so I can focus in our forum software.

Software-wise there's still plenty of work to do. I'm devoting almost all of my "forum time" to trying to get ahead with bringing the features back to this fresh install (about to enable warnings/pre-moderation to solve the Vito case) and of course the remaining tags plus integrating sponsors in a better and more tight fashion to the forum (paypal-provided integration script plain sucks, we need a consolidated login and I'm on it. This is why I have taken the banner down, further sign-ups will be done adding another layer as to the paypal script and fellow sponsor's account to consolidate it, as in "in-house" sponsor-only section and creating sponsored threads, sponsor-only forum goodies, etc., just a bit more patience... all of this is for the better and I truly hope we can be software and harware-wise STABLE this month).

I'll report back.

This is about to be solved, we are to be physically moved and assigned another CPU at datacenter, so IP adress will change, and etc. gotta put maintenance mode and all.

Well, we are in the dedicated hosting leage so they should treat us right and fix anything on their side to every extend as it is their best interest to keep all of you happy. If you are happy with the forum, I'm happy with their service, if I'm happy with them, then long-term relationship is in place. And well, so far, I'm indeed happy they care. Let's expect better performance at new CPU, to be placed at a better cluster, connected to a better router, etc.

Herb or any other guy near vegas should check their datacenter and confirm they are as big as advertised lol

Cheers. Hopefully this will get us ahead of hardware issues once and for all.

Hi Victor,
It's good to have this site again.  The speed here is good, both navigation and login.  Did we lose spell check?  If so no big deal, Sam can correct my spelling as well as my grammar and sentence structure. RP

Hello. Have to recompile our nolinks service (apache) for spell check to work as it uses spelling module, with so many reinstalls/recompiles it got out... but let's not mess with apache configuration today... Let's just enjoy the website at least for a couple more days without messing with internal configuration! :)

I'm just tweaking installed forum software. Nothing to recompile with that. Just modding forum sources with text editor to add code.

Every single missing features is coming (if people miss a feature, it matters!). Give me today and tomorrow for restoring as much as I can, then you can do the bug report on what you miss :)

Regards.
Victor, looking forward for a long and stable connection this time.

I'm a bit nonplussed by the slowness issue...no two web sites ever load at identical speeds! And, quite frankly, I'd never noticed the forum as being particularly slow overall.

I suspect regional issues play a large part.

You'll see what I mean if you all visit this site regularly:  nolinks://nolinks.internettrafficreport.com/ (nolinks://nolinks.internettrafficreport.com/)

At least you can see at a glance if you're in a 'slow zone' because some peanut has chopped through a vital cable or whatever!

Totally spot-on esoito. It is always amazing the amount of things required to deliver any website after you type the ".com" and hit enter.

The internet is so segmented, has so many possible routes... data passes through so many different configurations on its way to users' computers...

I remember from many moons ago having started my first steps contracting with trashy 3rd world datacenters, paid in regional currency. I particularly remember to starting noticing everything can mess with connectivity once there was one whom actually told me site has been down out of a cable being partially "peeled off" by furniture, I went like: :o

Later on I learned it: when dealing with computers one must expect everything. Now hardly anything that happens amazes me, IT on this aspect is pretty much like roulette.

I've experienced from processors melting out of fan coolers not working properly to burned modems (ah, the dialup times, those screeechy sounds modems made to connect, the thrill of being online... heck I still remember that).. also the very lame errors -I.e. X or Y hardware was simply unplugged.

So yes mate, a mouse may pee on a switch/router and mess an entire network. Heck.

Hello dear Lionel. Thanks for your report.

Here's a tip:

For text-only, lighting fast access, do visit our mobile wireless device versions from your dialup:

nolinks://vlsroulette.com/?wap2 (nolinks://vlsroulette.com/?wap2)

or

nolinks://vlsroulette.com/?imode (nolinks://vlsroulette.com/?imode)

Wireless browser users can reply and read PM's anywhere from cellphone/PDA! :)

As a plus, dialup users can get a text-only version of the forum for those days when connection is not optimum or simply for browsing speedy without the images.

A totally enjoyable feature for those who will appreciate it the most!  :)
