Title: VLS WHY AM I BEING PICKED ON BY TWOCAT?
Post by: LimpIN on March 29, 2009, 04:41:55 PM
WHY AM I BEING PICKED ON MY TWOCAT?

This was my PM from Twocat,

LimpIN

Please modify your post to Mattjono.  Your clickable link leads to a web page where sales are made.  Please take out the nolinks://nolinks (nolinks://nolinks) and leave the rest.  People can put that back in.

It's the rules of the forum.

Sam

Yet kimo Li and Rpro both have nolinks://nolinks (nolinks://nolinks) links which have been there for ages so why pick on me???

kimo has, nolinks://roulettecircle.com (nolinks://roulettecircle.com)

Rpro has, nolinks://nolinks.rouletteforum.net/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?m-1236452469/ (nolinks://nolinks.rouletteforum.net/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?m-1236452469/)

Thanks!

People

I have given this some thought.  Maybe I was wrong on this one.  I'm sure LimpIN is not making money off this link, so I probably fired from the hip.

And---sooner or later---I'll probably pick on everyone.  It me job, you know!

Is the rule no clickable links whatsoever, or no clickable links that lead to sales pages?

Kimo Li's page is a paradox, it actually has no sales section for his book but more links the lead to online bookstores. (I don't have a problem with Mr Kimo Li, I'm using his book and website as an example of where this forum rule can be unclear). OK, call me a pedant.

:)

Number 6

Glad you asked that question.

Let's say a person wants to help with a question and posts a link to a book on eBay.  This happened to me and I bought the book.  This person surely did not make money off that deal; he just helped me.  These links I, personally, have no problem with.  Upon examining LimpIN's link, it's the same thing.  Mistake on my part.  :-[

What I don't want to do is restrict free access to helpful information on this forum.  What I do want to do is prevent people from using this forum as a free eBay.

This brings up a sticky wicket.  Here we have this Matt fellow who is obviously selling Roulette Bot Pro.  I want to buy it.  Where did I hear of it?  On this forum, of course.  Now, suppose I buy it and it's good.  Do I restrict the guy who joins next week from learning of it?  You guys must understand--it is quite difficult to draw a straight line on this matter!

I am thinking these things must be decided on a case-by-case examination.

I can promise you this:  Anything I do on this forum is done with the intention of improving the forum.  I'm not here to be the judge, jury and executioner--although I can be.

We shall wait for the rules to be posted.

The problem is aggressive marketing and affiliation. Affiliate opinions on Product X are biased, which obviously mislead members of the forum...primarily people who have been directed here by researching Product X through google or whatever, and then sign up to ask questions.

But if you can't have affiliates, that means you are endorsing censorship.

It truly is a dilemma.

Welcome and Greetings.  Anyone who posts a link on day one or two may be scrutinized.  Nothing personal.  Just my observation/opinion.  RP

FYI,

If you click on "roulettecircle.com" it does not take you to the link.  Victor set it up that way from the beginning.

At one time my books were post here for free, until  I was told I was in breach of my contract.  So, I took it down.

I have a library of many books of things I find interesting.  How would I have known unless I saw it advertised or someone recommended it to me.

I build picnic tables and benches as a way to relieve depression.  I even have a site for that. Does anyone have a need to buy one?

There was a time...

...When I had the idea of allowing posters to swipe a link at their signature so by making contributions (posts) they could get exposure to their link.

This has been contested and now a feature is in place for which no live links can be added to signatures.

It is in place right now. Anyone can try adding a live signature link like nolinks.somesite.com (//nolinks://) (//nolinks://) (//nolinks://) (//nolinks://), there's an "automated surprise" via modified forum signature parser ;)

Now, for those who already have sites on their signature I have to run a forum-wide database update SQL query to modify it. To be issued soon when rules are in place, namely on the 31th

When people complain, we listen. Our board is an always-evolving entity.

Regards.
