Title: I would Like your opinion on something - Electronic Video Roulettes
Post by: mane on May 09, 2009, 10:32:04 PM
Hi,

This is my second message at this forum but i´ve been reading this and other foruns about roulette over the last 2 months.

I had never payed much attention to gambling until i went to the casino some 3 months ago and tried to play for a little and lost very quickly.  So i though it would be nice to get on the internet and try to learn some methods that would improve my changes of "getting my money back" the next time i went there.

My first choice was blackjack, because of card counting and the possibility of gaining an edge that way.  I read some books on the issue, learned some counting systems and basic strategy. . . only to find out the casinos in my country, Portugal, use continuous shuffling machines, which makes card counting uselles. . .

So i turned to roulette and found some foruns and began testing some systems.  Have not found any real winning system in the long run but after some testing using Lanky´s six point divisor plan playing on two dozens seemed a safe way of getting maybe 30 units on a bankroll of 100 with little risk.

So this afternoon i went to the casino some 30 Km from where i live and decided to try it out on an video roulette.  I thought i would not play on a video roulette for one person because i was affraid it could be cheating me, but this casino has a video roulette for about 20 players, each posting bets on a touch screen, so i thought it was safe. . . with so many people betting i thought it could not cheat one person in particular. . .

Well, i made my first 5 units using the system quite well. . and then my 100 units bankrool just went away in the next minigame. . . . this had never happened in more than 100 tests with real spins from hamburgo and even on a rng casino simulator game i have. . .
But the worst is the results of wins and losses i got.  I was playing the 2 last dozens and my session went like this :

   nolinkswLLwLLLnolinkswwLwLLLLwLLLLwLwwL

Thats 15 wins and 16 losses, where playing 2 dozens i should have about twice the number of wins over losses. . . .

I´ve calculated that what i got is almost 3 standard deviations from expected. . . so either i´m really really unlucky to get this on my firt try of a system or the machine was cheating. . .

What is your opinion ? Do you think its possible this video roulettes even with many players are cheating. . . even on a casino regulated by the government and all ?

And on top of everything a player next to me, started with 100€, playing in a way that seemed chaotic to me, and won 1000€.  He went to collect it, came back with 100€ and made another 1000€. . . . and again a third time. . . in under one hour. . . . his numbers just hit. . . 1 time in 2 he would get a win on a number he had bet 20 € or something. . . .
I dont understand.  Was this machine only cheating me and letting this person win, could he possible work for the casino. . . i dont know. . i´m really confused. . . or really unlucky.

I would love to hear your thought on this, because i got really depressed thinking i can be this unlucky. . . .

   Thanks for your opinions,

   Mane

You just got unlucky. That's what happens with system players, they think that they are being cheated when they lose. But in reality, there is a negative expectation with roulette and you are going to lose more than you win.
