Interesting Victor, although a good many of these so called "dead" languages are still very much in demand. C, Pascal, Lisp are in the top 25 and other dinosaurs like Cobol and Fortran are in the top 50: nolinks://nolinks.tiobe.com/index.php/content/paperinfo/tpci/index.html

It's not surprising that C is still near the top, since a lot of scripting languages (Python, Perl, PHP etc) are written in C, as well as all Operating systems (not to mention embedded systems), you could say it's the mother of all modern programming languages, and it isn't going away anytime soon.

Tangram, you are right.

As for me, my next step is basically to focus in web-based programming only and to go "Flashy" (pun intended) with Flash-based apps.

There is (and always will be) marked for desktop apps, but the ease of use of something you can just deliver over the web and users have it ready without any sort of installs or downloads can't be matched (IMO).

You just code once and it is available for windows, linux and any other flash-enabled platform.

That's the future, that's where I want to focus and where I aim to be...

You're probably right Victor. It's on my to-do list to learn CGI programming.

Tangram,

If your application doesn't require direct hardrive access to the user's PC and you want a broader audience, then this is the way to go.

More people will simply visit a webpage to directly use what you can offer.

Online visit VS download & install ratio is clearly biased towards online.
