Hello everybody,
Here's a few poker details I ran into recently. Its really good. just check it out.

The most basic rule to play poker is that you need to have the best hand, with 5 cards, to win the game. A basic poker game is played with a regular pack of cards of 52 cards. The cards have their own ranking from high to low: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and Ace. The Ace is mentioned twice because it's has 2 rankings, high and low. There are four different suits: spades, hearts, clubs and diamonds and all the suits are equal. There exist about 15 official poker games with their own rules, but they share basic poker rules.

okay, thanks Donald for the basics :)

as a semi-pro poker player, I'll give you my best tips:
- be patient.  This is so key.  I have sat at a table for 5 hours and NOT played one hand... yes it sucks, and yes it's boring, but playing bad hands usually ends up meaning bigger losses.
- play only the best hands when at a full table (8+ people).  by best hands I mean AA,KK,QQ,AK,AQ,JJ,TT,
- Never sit at a table with a min. BR (you'll get bullied, trust me)
- Always sit at a table with a max. BR (read above... nuff said)
- realize when a player is hitting cards.  I know it's supposed to be random, but any good card player will tell you that streaks of good cards happen.  nothing feels better than throwing away a big hand and seeing the guy with the hot streak show an even bigger hand.

These few tips will definately get you going.  Hope there of some use.

Cheers,
Matt

Hi Matt, how does one become semi-pro at Poker. And do you only play live casinos?

How does one become a semi-pro player??  Well, by playing alot and hopefully being good at it!  ;D  Okay, seriously... I play live mostly but do play online as well (pokerstars mostly).  I fly around the country every month or few and play in tourneys.  I usually do well enough to fund my poker habits and pay for my flights/hotel/meals..etc.  Just not brave/good enough to give up my job and try it full time.  It makes me a little extra spending cash which is all I'm looking for right now.

Matt - I have found that being patient is going to benefit you in the long run. And not only that, but once you have a playable hand that wins for you, that will allow you to be a little more aggressive in that if you have a tight table image, you "automatically" have a hand if you are playing in the pot.

TP - books are good. Learning a lot about poker is a good thing. However, there comes a time when instinct is the key. You can read all the opinions from great poker players, and sometimes they will contradict. What do you do then? Let your gut be your guide. More times that not, it's correct.

Hello there, I´ve been playing poker enough to say that.... When being a conservative player of course it can make u win in the long run but it all depends on the exterior factors, what i mean is.... If you are playing against experienced players dont pretend you can only wait for the good hands to come because there will be 2 problems 1)They might not come and you might be loosing blinds 2)You cant simply play using one style

its essential that you change your way of playing, you cant let other players know your strategy, if you really want to become good you have to be unpredictable you msut change from agressive to conservative that way your opponents wont know what are you playing to...

There are various ways to win a pot and its not just by having the best hand you can make your opponent fold by playing a good bluff.

Also when playing live, try to look for tails.....Unconsiously when good cards come out, if you have a winning hand there are many things that can show it, facial expression..... the way you pick up the chips and throw them... There are lots of factors which can make you guess what is the opponent holding, just search for them.

Happy profiting, i hope to be on the canadians wpt on october.... Today i play the tournament which will decide If i´ll be there wish me luck and happy profiting

Hi Koy90,

thanks for the post.  Wow - good luck with the Canadian WPT attempt.  I have a good friend who has tried to make it for the past couple years (no luck yet though).

I agree with you to the most part.  You can't wait forever and sometimes the good cards just never come your way.  But thats were things like knowing how to play position can come in handy, along with "tells".

As with most games, there will be times when playing passive pays off... likewise for playing aggressive.  Playing online though, I find passive the most profitable as most players get impatient and end up playing semi-good to crappy hands.

Cheers - and keep me posted on the wpt! (where in Canada are you?)
