Its that time of the year, always a beauty of a question. Lets say I walk into the casino with $500, I play roulette. I get it up to $800 (total). I eventually leave with $600 (total). Did I lose money that day? Ken

Nathan Detroit

You did NOT lose any money. You were a winner  with a very  REALISTIC  Win goal of 20 % even though you  did return some of your winnings. But that`s another story.   :ok:

Once you have reached your Win goal you  continue playing  unlimited  spins with the EXCESS until the  FIRST loss.

FORTUNE is fickle and soon asks  back what she  has given! :diablo:

Mr J

Not arguing, only playing both sides. What do you say if you hear....when you went over the $500 you walked in with, that is NOW your money. You have free will to walk out the door.  Ken

Steve

You walked out with more than you walking in with. It's a "good day". But you will have bad too. Thinking in terms of weeks and months rather than days is better.

Without any doubt, you lost $200 that day.

With the buffet and valet tip figured in, my calculator says I lost $375. Oh, and there was that hooker after lunch, I guess it was a bad day.

Mr J

Forget the buffet, valet and the hooker. UP or DOWN for the day?  Ken

Mr J

I was playing today and this subject came up but with a twist....I LOVE IT. Using the same logic, lets say you walk into the casino with $500. You play for a while and are down to $300. You leave with $400. Are you up $100?  :girl_wacko: I love this s**t.  Ken

If you have five $20 bills in your hand and I grab one of them and give you back $10, did you just make $10? Why is this easy to understand and gambling isn't?

Nathan Detroit

What  really matters  is  the  amount of the  bankroll your are leaving the casino with . What happened while  at play during the stay inside the casino  is  another matter . The final result counts.

Nathan says with only 20 % of your bankroll down you still had a good  day. Much  easier to recover  at the next visit  if you would  have  left at  minus  $ 200. .

A 40% loss is still better than  suffer a complete wipe  out . Then you feel ROTTEN on the way home. :diablo:

What's worse than finding a worm in your apple?

Mr J

"What's worse than finding a worm in your apple?" >>> Blood in my semen.

Carpanta

I think semen in your blood is even worse, Mr J. :haha:

Cheers,
Carlos.

By the way,if you were up $300 and fell back $200 that's a loss. It is a sour victory deep in your soul. You should have put at risk a lesser amount while speculating to increase those 300 bucks.
