Preparation for your roulette-playing can be as important as the play itself, and sure helps in having as much proper play as possible.

What to do previous to your session?

Here is a checklist of what to do BEFORE you put foot in a casino or start a real-money session online:

( ) Go to the bathroom. Double "P". Pee & Poo.
There's nothing worse than having to cut a session because you can't hold anymore. –When you are back, what a painshall your (non-betted) numbers have hit!!.

( ) Have your tracking supplies double-checked.
If you are going to do manual tracking, then be sure to have enough paper to cover the longest imaginable session. Also have both pen and sharpened pencils –Just in case your pen goes dry, you can always have the good ol' reliable pencil.

( ) Be certain you leave the problems at home.
If the problem is at home AND you are playing online, then avoid to engage in roulette play. -Seriously, your mind has to be "in the game". You will be staking your money. When you have personal problems, you can't play.
Better to skip a session, solve the problem and have mental peace for the next time, rather than being in the game with your mind elsewhere.

( ) Be certain to have eaten before starting your session.
You can't think straight on an empty stomach.

( ) Carry something to eat / drink with yourself.
If you are prone to long sessions, then your body needs the energy supply to keep up with the mental and -to some extent- physical stress attached to a situation when money in being risked AND you care about it (as you should).

( ) Take a bath and dress well.
If you are going to a land-based casino this is a must. Besides, it is always nice to go to the casino well-dressed and smelling nicely since it implies a special occasion.
- p.s. disregard this if you are betting from home online. Feel free to go and play in your underwear, nobody will notice. Just be certain to close the windows :).

( ) Put yourself in a "Roulette State of Mind".
Last but not least, you MUST internalize what you are going to do. You are going to make a real-money roulette session.
You must be set to avoid distractions, avoid the sound of slots, avoid being bothered by the plethora of hands you can find messing with the chips at the table.

If you are playing online, you must avoid distractions to be found around your computer AND everytime you lay bets, you must use this as a chant: "CONFIRM BETS, CONFIRM BETS... BE SURE BETS ARE CONFIRMED" –repeat until you are positively sure you not only placed your bets but also confirmed them ( It sucks big time to forget confirming your bets and then having them winning )

You must be certain of starting the session with the promise of keeping yourself focused at all times in order to keep human errors at a minimum AND you must prepared to detach emotionally from the game so you can leave when you are winning (or when loss-limit is reached).
Putting yourself into a "Roulette state of mind" from BEFORE you start a real-money session helps a lot, also the other points.

Hope you have a productive, focused and non-interrupted session by following these recommendations.

Best regards.

Your friend,
Victor

Thanks Vic,

Maybe one more thing. Select in advance your betting plan(s). If you intend to play or try some new ideas limit the quantity of these as it is very demanding at the beginning. Specially if it is complicated to handle (i know as this is the hallmark of all my systems  :o)

Victor, before seating at any particular table do you make a check on the previous spins to see how your selected system would have performed ? Do you select any table or you prefer to evaluate its state of chaos in relation to the system you intend to play ?

Thanks

Oskar

Hi mates. Sometihing that I've learnt, is that you muast have the free time to develop your game. I play online (live dealer) and I think I need at least 2 hours free to "stay" at casino.

I am developing more and more patience. Do you know what I do now? I start tracking from the very spin I sit instead of looking at the marquee, therefore I make my own "marquee"

If I am playing land-based I sit at any table and I just start tracking.

As a matter of fact there is no need to pre-qualify too much if you know how to adapt. Once you realize the key is to take what the table is playing right now, you only need to have some criteria I.e. oposite ones ( jump dozen, stay on same dozen ), and see if you can do something with what is currently there.

So I guess I evaluate, but not its "state of chaos" but more the "STATE OF THE BET SELECTION" I'm going to use. Remember in a stream of numbers a system can go very good and in the same stream another can go "poopy" ( real bad ), so it isn't as much the table as the criterion what one has to evaluate.

Hope that is clear.

If using a progression, bring with you different "starting out" progressions because of the table limits changing.  Ken

i like that.. setting your plan and sticking to it.. if it fails.. it failed.. the worst thing i've seen is starting a system it doesn't seem to be going so well than just start betting randomly... i guess if it's failing you could also leave the casino or take a break or somehing instead..

Quite an advice Ken! (Specially for the grinding players). Although I don't know how many "takers" will there be...

Regarding long sessions...

A proficient grinding player should try to "strech" that bankroll as much as possible.

This is why Lanky has the "safety brake" into his divisor plan, this is why Manrique's followers enjoy using progression in risk (covering less numbers, to stretch the progression in the hopes to still "be there" shall the concentration of hits arrive).

Bankroll stretching mentality is one of the "schools of thought" in roulette, on its own merit. Lionel says it isn't how much you win, but how much you don't lose what matters; 100% referring to bankroll preservation as a mentality and as a technique.

Flat betting a minimal unit or not betting at all while at the very bad times is a very plausible way to accomplish this. You must be a "grinder" at heart to enjoy this approach, but it is rewarding when you hold onto your bets and the concentration of hits finally "kicks in".

#1 reason not to bet continuously. If any, "going virtual" allows for time to reconsider the situation. The less adrenaline a player is subject to, the better for the decision-making process.

Enjoy doing your bankroll stretching exercises! You'd be glad you did :)

Kind regards.
Victor

I think it's a good idea to have a "stoploss" partner.  He/she can provide good ideas during the game---and warn you if your betting turns compulsive---like a designated driver.
