Numerology Doesn't Fly Anymore at Las Vegas Casinos

If you travel to Las Vegas, don't expect to debonairly walk to a roulette table with a numerology chart or card, throw down some cash, and proclaim, "Let it ride". That's because numerology no longer plays in Vegas.

It used to be traditional that, if you planned on staying for a length of time at one spot, didn't want to risk losing when you played or just felt like getting an extra edge, you could track the numbers and just place your chips down on your bet. The dealer would shout, "Round and round she goes, where she stops nobody knows", letting the pit boss know a big bet had been placed, and play would begin. If you won, you left with your charts, as well as chips from the casino.

Now, due to new Nevada laws which went into effect this summer, numerology can no longer be used to calculate a wager. The player must exchange his careful calculations and charts for random bets, which have become the only acceptable wagers at the roulette table.

Terry Ivaeov, table supervisor at the Sands Hotel and Casino, says the new laws are designed to make sure every dollar is properly gambled.

"The casino can keep track of every dollar that is placed in the lock-box. Numerology plays are not random bets and are not allowed, since they clearly give the player and unacceptable advantage.  We are no longer going to reward this type of advantage player or tolerate their action.  Look, they're playing with a substantial edge each time they make their calculations.  We're in the business to make money.  These numerologists are affecting the bottom line!"

So, be sure to get to the table with random bets.  It's still ok to bet birthdays, and numbers at random; "But if the dealer or pit suspect that you are using numerology, then you'll be shown the door."
