I personally don't think self moderation will work sometimes it will but most time it wont like others have said in this thread the thread starter  can have his own agenda

Leaving it up to the moderators I think is better idea you  need oppositon sometimes just to set one on the straight and narrow opposition can be constructive abuse is not

LS is right this place isnt what it used to be it used to positive vibes hopefully we can get there again I know Victor will do his best

Mr J

This is most likely what will happen >>> Someone has a thread about whatever. 4-6 other posters who think if they post, it'll be deleted. So, those 4-6 posters go off and start their own sub-thread regarding the original thread. This way, THEY are in charge and not the other way around. Copy/paste back and fourth, nice and safe.  Ken

Hah Ken LOL

Viral thread wars. Any idea spawns four or five bullet proof rebuttals. That's right on the point Ken. I prefer banning anyone that talks as if children aren't near by. Keep the remarks, but ban a person from a thread. If you want to debate then that is one thing. If you want to drag it off topic or disrupt the discussion then that gets you banned from a thread.

What about thread banning?

I agree. Moderators are supposed to be impartial, and not pursue their own agenda or delete others posts without good reason. I don't know how the self-moderating will go, my feeling is that there will be more new threads. People won't want to criticize because they think their posts will be deleted as "disruptive", so they will go and start a separate thread to do the "disrupting" there. Then if anyone starts to "disrupt" their "disrupting" thread they will delete the posts and this will start a chain reaction. Before we know it the forum will explode.  ;D

Ok, maybe that's an exaggeration but you know what I mean. We'll see how it goes.

This seems to be a very accurate assessment of the situation.

I think the members will think twice and be hesitant to post replies, knowing the thread starter/over zealous mod may remove it.  People will quickly learn whose thread not to waste their time with.  RP

you can never step in the same river twice.. aka this forum is not what it used to be..

bad things are only bad when you make them bad.. except when they really are bad..

anyway.. i think if people were taught how to think.. there wouldn't be problems like this..
i'm seriously not trying to rip anyone off here but i think the majority of people are not taught
how to think especially in the schools.. they are taught there's only 1 right answer in schools.. and most of
the time it's answer c. (statistically my teacher told me to just go with c if i didn't know the answer also the
all of the above and none of the above's are suppose to be mostly the correct answer.. according to that teacher)

some people on this forum have said there is only one truth.. so is light a particle or a wave? or something else..?

some people think they know everything.. or at least they think what they know is right.. no matter what.. the more you think you know the more of a cosmic schmuck you are.. according to the law of cosmic schmucks that is..
you could also translate that into belief system aks b.s. i think too many people have a lot of b.s. in their minds..

just my opinions.. at my current stage of development..

i don't know if this post is off topic or not.. i'm trying to help people think.. so it feels on topic enough to me.. if you disagree.. you can just delete my post of course..

esoito

I think the above post hits the target.

Well stated.

Things aren't always what they seem...particles when observed; waves when not observed.

Things are often not what they seem at first glance...

I too like the quantum mechanics analogy.  The condescending, arogant, bossy, nasty, and bragging overtones that turn so many off are already waning as Victor and the mods take care of the abusers.  While this forum is not what is has been, it is certainly changing for the better.  Soon, hopefully, this will just be remembered as a small bump in the road, if at all.  RP

I think this is a good thing and will in the end attract posters who really want to contribute to the community.
Even veteran posters here are comfortable enough to tell jokes again, a good sign.

With no moderation (truly uncensored boards) medium moderation (1-man administrator who checks-in when and if he can or moderators who condone at times and let it pass on other times) or heavy moderation (most productive environment, targeting productive users and making disruptors feel unwelcome to the point of wanting to take their disruptive business to a forum with any of the moderation plans above)... Forum diversity is good.

Actually, the more forum diversity, the merrier.

Once there is enough diversity, then it is all a matter of the underlying platform (the most features to facilitate roulette information exchange with the most "goodies" to smooth the progress and improve forum user's experience) or a matter of raw text (some people claim the only thing you need to have a successful forum is raw text in, raw text out; there actually are some text-only message boards enjoying success).

Actually, the key of success lies in BOTH factors maxed-out. If you can gather the most advanced technological forum and create the most productive environment for debate via proper moderation, then that's the key to forum success.

Personally, forum competition motivates me to give our forum more technology. If other forums want to match ours, fine, but there is the will to make it a hard knock. I.e. keeping "homegrown" features proprietary, spending time in developing new ones, coding improvements to current ones. Knowing the roulette community and giving it what it requires to obtain the most enjoyable experience at the time of reading and participating; this is the key factor.

Competition itself pushes to evolve and not just slack on current features, or letting disruptors win over productive users who want to engage in healthy debate, as it happens at uncensored or poorly moderated environments.

Time will tell who is who and who does in fact stand on this forum diversity arena.

In the end, the big beneficiary is the roulette community as a whole.

It is us against the wheel, not us against us.

Kind regards,
Victor
