My take on "private sections"

I want to put to you a simple question.  You need not answer, yet you cannot keep from answering in your mind and heart.

Suppose tomorrow a new member joins and post an honest-to-God winning system.  Let us use our imagination and suspend disbelief for a minute.  He really has done it.

Here is the question:

How many of you members of private sections would ignore his bet and continue your search because he WAS NOT a member of your section?  Honestly, how many?  Yet your logic for having private sections is that you don't want anyone to know your secrets.  You don't want to give away your knowledge to just anyone who happens by.  Well, I thought this forum WAS for anyone who just happened by.  Where did I go wrong?

So correct me if I'm wrong: You would keep the secret amongst your private members, BUT if someone who was NOT a member found the "Holy Grail" you'd gladly hitch your wagon to his star.  Am I right or wrong?  Don't need to answer me; answer your heart.

This forum is not going in a good direction.  It has not been going in a good direction for some time now.  This "I've got a secret" crap is sickening to me.  The only secret these guys have is how much money they've lost.  And they don't know the dollar figure, I can promise!

I am publicly asking Lanky to return this forum to the original format where people tried to help people.  Not one where everyone can delete a message when they don't like the content.  I've said it over and over again, if you don't like someone's post--simply ignore them and go on.  Believe it or not, I respect every dissenting view.  I hold in my heart the thought: He could be right.  Hell, did I not say that to Herb days and days ago?  Um, yes I did.

It's time for put-up or shut-up as far as I'm concerned.  When some bloke comes on here and brays about how great he is, we need to stop right there and check his dipstick!  Let's put him to the test!  If he passes, he'll have a crowd to lecture.  If he doesn't, we won't waste anymore time on him.

I personally have never gone to Gambler's Glenn but I don't see how it could be much worse than what this forum is becoming.

Lanky, we need a set of hard-and-fast rules as to what is permitted and what is not.  YOU are the only person, not me or anyone else, who should be allowed to write on this rule board.  People need to abide by the rules or get the hell out of Dodge.  We need a directive, a mission statement that tells what we are all about and what our goals are. THEN, posts should stay within the scope of the mission statement and not stray all over the place.

I am as guilty as the next person:  I have touted movies and food, talked of projects and other things.  I will stand to be corrected along side the next person.

DAMN, I'm glad to get that load off my chest!

Sam, nobody is going to hand you the Holy Grail. When they do it will be about guessing and randomness. Most people will still be rejecting it. So all the discourse in our discussions will go as they are now until someone proves that really works. This is not the time so we don't have a Holy Grail. I'll probably be dead before the truth gets out. So I'm enjoying the eyes glazing over. So what that people get angry. The casinos aren't complaining are they?

Herb

There's nothing wrong with this messageboard.

It is what it is.

Mr Chips

Sam,

My understanding of the way this forum was set up is that a wide range of opinions was wanted, no matter how obscure and as a result, we
have been subjected to a number of odd ball ideas and after several pages, we are none the wiser for it.

It was bound to happen, that certain people consider they have something special and don't want to share it with the wider community. May
be they don't want to be subjected to negative posts, which are abundant on this forum.

I like many aspects of this forum, but it can be very frustrating at times and there was a period when I left it, but to borrow Herb's quote
"It is what it is". It has developed into what it is and I don't see how it can change.

Hi TCS old friend.

I know what kind of job it is to do the job of a forum´s owner, admin or mod. and I have a lot of respect to anyone doing these jobs.

The more people are joining in the less is quality. This is a kind of murphy´s law.

Some people complained why I didn´t comment others strategies or ideas. It was simply that fact, that in all the years I looked for a decent strategy I tested every bet-selection. I could go and tell in every thing : It doesn´t work. But I don´t. Why? It is simple the people have fun, like myself, to work on bet-selections. Perhaps they may see something I haven´t seen. so let them do.

And I am bored of being called a "what ever herb´s idea is" and with which he is scamming the whole board and every Thread.

I don´t join places where people are allowed to spit on me, that is the simple thing.

I can handle everyone who is telling me by math and coding it don´t work. Or even when someone is arguing simply on a logical way.

And this forum is not what it is, it is what Herb made of it. His own spit-bowl

Lanky

Hi Forum.

Some no in fact all but one of those private Boards were in Place before Sam & I was appointed as Co-Administrators.

Some have been with us for a heck of a long time. Some between 15 and 18 months old (they could be even older if they were bought over from the Old Forum.

That been said....I spoke to Victor about them this Morning My time...and We agreed to leave those to Him to fix...He is the Tech Guy.
And if I start this computer and the Toaster don't jump up Or the Car don't start then I consider that I am off to having a good day.

In the mean time I will think and put something up for the Mods to vote on then bring it to the You the Forum to have Your Say. (with a Poll etc)

As to the Mission Statement ...well I think we have to get the above problems taken care of first before We can go ahead with that.

And in the Past all that has been thrashed out by the Mods & Admins first so We can then bring it to You the People of Our Forum.....And I see no reason to change that.....
Better we argue that out in the Mods lounge First and if needed then ask for more suggestions and further input by You the Members.

Let Me make this promise to all of You as Your Administrator and that is that the whole Moderating Crew is here for the benefit of the Forum in general.
And under the Leadership of Sam-Xman and Myself if We think that anything needs to brought to the Forum no matter how small then We will not hesitate to do so.

Because Your input could sway a lot of things or changes going forward My Friends.

Thank You on behalf of the Moderating Crew.

Lanky/Sam and Xman

Some ideas for the board bosses to keep in mind -

We (well me), general members not currently in any secret sub groups:

1   do not know how many groups that exist here and

2   do not know how much activity these boards receive and therefore can't really decide if the forum is suffering        because of it (them)

3   do not know what the basis of study is/are and whether it would interest us anyway and/or suit our playing style

4   do not know who the members are, but can certainly understand why some would want keep things private from particular members (ie trouble makers that offer nothing but negative remarks and brag about there scary EC abilities and such)

Without this info I am certainly in the dark.  I definately would vote to keep them in place, but as wrote in the other thread - those members should have mandatory fees assessed with their membership here, after all they are getting more.

Perhaps you could declassify some of this without giving away any of their secrets and give us a better picture of what is really going on here.

Hello,

"Private sections"?

My view is that if I want to discuss certain things with certain members in the shape of a message-board I would set up one like this one and invite the members I choose.
And to read/post there you have to get a password from me. And so it would be a secret for everyone else - as long as it is not openly talked about.

So I see no difference really to such "private sections" here. Only that Victor host it instead of that I have to find somewhere to set it up - for free if possible...

As I am not invited into any "private sections" I can not see any and so it is totally all the same to me if they stay or not.
I mean that I can not see any difference any way...

Best regards,

I think private sections are a good way to retain highly productive members. (I.E. I remember Victor extended an invite to Winkel to head his own section if he would stay.)

Sorry Winkel, but you have me confused with someone else.  I don't read most threads, let alone comment in them.  I prefer to chat constructively with people one on one in the chat area where it's easier to share ideas.  You give me way too much credit.  I didn't create this forum, and I didn't make into what it is today.   I also haven't commented on you in quite some time.

For what it's worth, the forum isn't broken.  There is, however, way too much forum narcissism.  The forum is fine.  When you post threads with subjects like this, they become what the forum is about, rather than roulette.  If you want to change the forum around, just do it.  Don't drag it out and talk about it so much.  If you want to wreck the forum, keep subjects like this as the main topic.

Regards,

Herb                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                /.\

Be it right or be it wrong, I have asked Lanky to remove me as co-administrator.  When my bankroll is built back to even (300 Euro) I will--for a time--post the results under the #2 thread.  If I bankrupt again, I'll post that.

Lanky,

If you want my input on something, please e-mail me.  I have no animosity toward anyone; I am just tired of playing "I've Got A Secret!"

I really want my days on this forum to be short.  It simply is not good for me in any respect.  I hope you can understand that.

Sam

Sorry to hear that, Sam.

I've really enjoyed your contributions.
