This is an interesting idea but I don't have the time to write a book about gambl

I decided to take my first chance with ebay about a week ago. It was a chance not worth taking. I found some apple ipod nano's for wholesale. I bought them and after I received them I found out that they were knockoffs and there are also multiple problems with them. So now I'm trying to sell these ipods on ebay that probably wont sell (I am letting people know that they are  not real).

It is great that you made such a profit on the items that you sold. You must have to know what you are doing to have success on that level.

Yeah, there are lots of traps for new players on ebay.
You do have to know what you are doing to a point, but it all comes together pretty quickly once you start doing the research. Just do an ebay search on anything that takes your fancy then do a completed item search/worldwide/highest first.

Try this one for example...Pez Dispenser... I bought a small bucket load of them a few years ago for $20 at auction, I swear I got back over $5000 for them.

The possibilities are endless, and 10,000 is a healthy bankroll for this type of investing.

I've been doing it as a hobby for extra cash for years. Believe me, you won't beat it with anything else once you get a feel for it.

$10,000 is not enough to invest with banks, etc.

wow I can't believe you made so much off of pez dispensers. Thank you very much for the advice.

I bought a pottery figurine for $150 and sold it on ebay for $2300.>>>

In 2000, I bought an antique telegraph key for $30 and sold it for $4000 on Ebay. The heyday of Ebay, as far as getting the stuff and making big money, is long gone. It can still be done, its just much harder because there are so many people out there looking. And a lot of the best stuff is no longer sold at auctions or estate sales, it goes right to Ebay. Back in the late 90's when you could sell antique hand guns and Nazi items and police badges from collections, those were dream times. I bought out a WWII vets collection of Nazi military stuff, swords, medals, daggers, etc, and made such a huge profit that if I told you how much, you'd say I was lying. Just a single swastika armband that I paid $25 for, would bring $300-$400. And I had a van load of the stuff. Those days are long gone.

Spike is almost right.
The wind has been knocked out of ebay's sails, but that just means it's time to change tack.
Sure, the huge profits are not as easy to secure for all the reasons Spike mentions, but there is still a world of goods to be bought and then sold on ebay, etc.
WWII stuff is great, I bought some WWII photographs last month for $10, got back $450 on ebay.
If you got the time and the incentive, $10000 can still earn you a lot of money on the internet, it's a lot safer than roulette anyway, and that's for sure.
Also, you don't need to make huge % margins if you're selling big ticket items, so you don't need to be buying absolute bargains for it to work out profitably.

Living around a big city like NY or CHI really helps. They have people who bought expensive items years ago and you can find it a lot easier than in a small town. Its a lot harder though, it used to be like shooting fish in a barrel. Going to gun shows and camera shows and radio shows and book shows and antique show and buying from dealers was glorious. Walk in with 5K and spend all of it and put it on Ebay and make a killing. Thats lasted about 3 years before the majority of dealers got computers and the show market all but dried up. You could buy a .38 revolver from 1900 at a gun show for $60 and sell it for $160 on Ebay for a quick hundred profit. I would buy an average of 40 handguns at a gun show. That lasted about a year and a half until Ebay banned all guns. Bastards.

There have to be places on the internet to get cheap things. I bet that a ton of people sell valuable stuff on craigslist worth a lot of money and they probably don't even know it. What about goodwill? Goodwill has an online auction site. the items seem to be cheap. Wouldn't it make sense to buy something off a good will auction and then sell it online for a little more? They have a ton of stuff on the site ranging from pez to vintage comics. Or even better if you live near a goodwill store they probably have a ton of valuable things. I was just reading that people are using goodwill as a garbage dump and half the time they don't even realize what they are giving up. And goodwill is willing to get rid of the stuff for a cheap price because they have fees to pay and so on.

Spike

Antique dealers have shopped at Goodwill for decades.

John1234

yea, I figured that. They have a good amount of stuff and there are goodwills all over the place.

Yeah, Goodwill shops are a good place to hunt for stock, it's tough though, with the dealers always trawling through the joints...Still worth a regular inspection.

If you have access to auction houses, they will provide more consistently.

Just keep an open mind, and get you 10 g's working for you.

Well, John1234

I just sold a $7.00 goodwill store purchase for $100 on ebay, so you can still do goodly.

Get into it!

John1234

thanks for all of the advice. I will defiantly look into this when I get my money.

Buy land, that's the only thing they don't make anymore...

Seriously, properties have gone up, on the average, 5% every year since the 1700's. (Yes, americans, the world did have houses before that.)

Then again, 10 k aint that much. Downpayment on a house perhaps?

But as someone said, asking around here is probably not the best idea.

Thank you, I thought about land but I can't afford that. Down the shore I could put a downpayment on a little condo thing.

I think that asking around here is fine. Just because someone says to do something I am not going to do it. The money that I am getting is from my aunt who died, so it is not like I am going to do anything risky with it. I am just trying to put together a list of the best possible things that I can do with the money. I know that this is a gambling site but I figured that there is a chance that someone around here would have experience with this or some sort of knowledge about what to do with money. It it better to have many options than no options at all.

I'm glad you have an open mind.  Have you thought about opening an online casino?

Shorty

$10,000 is no where near enough to open a casino. You would need somewhere in the millions to open one up. There would be licensing, web hosting, software, advertising and so much more to think about.
