Ever Wonder If Norman Leigh Really Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo...?

I don't know about you, but I loved reading "Thirteen Against the Bank" by Norman Leigh.  Even if it turns out to be a yarn, it's still a fun yarn, and it inspired me to think outside the box and to be relentless in the pursuit of my goals.

I've often wondered just how effective it really was to have six different people playing the reverse labouchere on each of the six even chances at the same time- and whether it was possible to actually make the kind of money he described in his book.

I finally broke down and coded it yesterday.

I have to say, it certainly has a lot of promise just as it is.  I did not get around to coding it for the dozens (I don't know if that would be profitable or not yet), but feel free to download it and test it out.  It works by just clicking on the number that came up.

A word of caution here: please don't use it to try and make money with.  I've not coded any money management or anything into it - you'll lose a ton of money if you do.

Finally, just an observation - when one of the even chances is streaking, you'll see that your potential profits go way up... but if nothing at all is streaking, well, you'll see...

Hi very helpfull bit of kit thanks.   Is there any way of inputing this info, 1unit=0. 20p with a table maximum of £1000 (5000units) on a single zero table.  over 1200 spins.  using the reverse labouchere as they did in the book on all 6 even chance bets.  I would be interested to see the results if you where able to do this.

Thanks JP

Justpoker,

Now that you mention it, I'd be interested to see whether this bet would hold up under these circumstances as well.  This is probably going to take me a lot longer, especially a function that will allow importing of 1200+ spins, but - I'll see what I can do...

I suspect that we'd see a long string of losses, followed by a massive win every now and then.

Let's hope.

Hi glad to here your going to give it some thought.   I have had a look at this site since my last post.  hxxp: nolinks. woodger. ca/roul/roul_awt. htm  take a look it might come in handy.  I also emailed the guy asking a few questions.
Heres my questions and his answers. this might come in handy to-
"Hi i have just used you simulator very interesting buy the way thanks for that.   Can you answer one question for me is it set for just betting one even chance or is it for betting all 6 even chance's.   If its only set for one is it possible to set it to all 6 and see the results, or at the very least set it so it shows the results from betting red and black  using the system".

His answer.
"The simulator only bets one even bet.   Because I'm using computer-generated random numbers, one even bet should be the same as another.   In the world of a physical roulette wheel (with the physical imperfections of a wheel), it would have been more important to play all 6 even chances. "

Im not %100 sure what he means buy the last sentance.

My next Question
Ok thanks.  Sorry to bother you with this stuff but am i right in thinking that if you bet both red and black on the same spin using the system it would effectively half the win/loss %.
(By that i mean using his simulator).

His reply (witch i found quite funny)
If you bet the same amount on both red and black on the same spin, then you will break even if a number 1 to 36 shows up (win red, lose black or vice versa).   However, if 0 (or 00) shows up, you will lose both bets.

It gets more complicated if you are betting different amounts on each colour.

(think i should have made my knowlage of roulette better know to the guy my bad)
So I bit the bullet and sent him this e-mail.

Last e-mail sent by me with no reply as yet

Ok so betting the same amount of your bankroll (1000 units)  on red and black i could expect to lose 1. 4% 14units yes? if i was betting 5 on red and 5 on black then i would be looking at losing . 14 units per spin average 40 spins an hour 5 hours a day=200 spins(-28units).  And with the reverse labouchere it relies on one even chance predominating over the other and increasing your bet accordingly.  But you only ever risk losing the 28 units in any 5 hour session yes? if you did hit one of the so called mushrooms in the 5 hours witch i think is quite realistic surely the gains would be greater than a measly 28 units you risk losing.   Could you just read over that and see if it makes sense.   Thanks.

Again sorry for bothering you but i have never been that great with maths and would appreciate if you take a look and let me know if there is any flaws.

That last paragraph goes to everyone now reading it.

GL Nullified and let me know how you get on.
P. S Sorry for the long post.  lol

JustPoker,

Thanks for the info.  I've played around with this other simulator.  Definitely interesting.

Anyway, as far as your question goes in regards to the reverse labouchere - I think you'll need to play around some more with the tool I've up loaded earlier.  After I had used it for a bit, I found that even without the zero coming up a lot, I was still in the negative a fair bit.  Then, all of a sudden, after there was a long streak of one color or one of the other even chances, my bankroll would shoot up into the positives... then quickly back down again when the streak died out.

I never did try to take the system to the betting table limits.  I think before I try that, I'll update the program first.

As I said earlier (and as Norman Leigh pointed out in his book), you should expect a long string of small losses on each of the even chances - until one of them begins to streak all the way to the table limits (theoretically, anyway).

I'll let you know when I've made the updates to the program.
