Pocket Depth

Is there a minimum depth allowed for pockets? Obviously it has to hold the ball!   Pockets appear to be getting shallower.

The minimum depth you will ever find, are on the cammgeh wheels - mercury 360. You wont come across more shallow than that.

Thank you for the replies so far. So as long as the ball can be held there is no minimum requirement?

.. on a cleaner and more serious note: the most shallow pockets I know of are in Japan on a japanese-made wheel. The pockets are deep enough to hold the ball still and the ball bounces for about 3/4 of the wheel. It looks like bad scatter but isnt because it the bounce is consistently about the same distance.

I assume you brought up the issue of pocket depth because of scatter. But there is a lot more to scatter than just pockets, and way to limit scatter. It is limited by both the wheel design and the individual wheel as even wheels of the same design are not the same.

the further the ball travels, the more possibilities of what it can hit and path it takes, and less predictable the scatter. But there are always imperfections in designs that increase predictability. Either way they are getting harder to beat.

Anyway, don't they always say it's not the depth or size that counts - it's what you do with it....
