Re: 100$ BR - how far can you get?
October 15, 2009, 07:00:06 AM
Wow nicely done Diarmid.  You doubled your bankroll is just a few days it seems?  I'm guessing switching over to HU play is in your game plan when need so?  HU sit n go is it?  Nicely done regardless.

Just an update.

My Bankroll is now at $1500, I had one progression loss in the past few days and I earned the last $200 playing heads up.

I have to say I find HU more profitable, maybe its my style I don't know, but I would be profiting even flatbetting stakes when playing heads up.

I'm now using a variation of the divisor plan for my heads up play.

I'll let you know when I have reached $5000

Cheers

Yeah, HU sng's.   I think I will just stick with the HU now, its much faster and I reach my daily targets much faster. I won 12 games in a row yesterday, 16 is my record and that was on the ipoker network. Having said that, this is on low stakes, $10 buyin. On higher stakes the players are better and its almost impossible to win anywhere near 10 in a row.

My base stake is $30 now on HU, i'll move to $50 when BR is $3000.

Hey Diarmid,

Aren't you a big Baccarat player as well?  I think I saw a while back you could beat Baccarat?  How's that going for ya?  What kind of advice can you offer for a newbie Bacc player as well.

To be honest if you are decent at poker, keep well away from baccarat. Baccarat is just like betting red/black on roulette, except for there is no zero.
I have a way to beat it using a bot and creating up and down graphs but it is extremely slow and no fun at all. It works about 75% of the time.

Thanks for your advice.  Hey Diarmid,  What do you think about the Double or nothing tables?  10 players and remain in the top 5 and double your buy?  You think working those games or even using a slight progression with those would be more easier to manage than the 9 people turbo sit and go's?

Maybe if you played a minimum of a 10 or 20 buy than it would be profitable?

I hate them double or nothin sng's, people just sit and wait for monster hands like AA KK QQ  AK and it is very possible to lose more than 5 in a row. Also they only go up to $100 buyin's on poker stars I think.

At the moment I am playing the 4 player shootout heads up SNG's. I use a 1,1,1,1,2,2,4,4,6,6  (10 step) progression. I have not gone past the 6th step yet and the rake is very low. For example on a $11+50c  game you are paying only 50c rake to get a $44 payout, thats $32.50 profit. Thats a very good return.

Yea...actually after playing a few of those I noticed how freaking slow they are even though their turbo's.  People just sit around and there's hardly any action and I start to lose patience and just make some dumb moves.  I'll stick to the regular turbo sit and go's.

Is there a way to track all my sit and go's played?  Or is it best to write it down on paper or store on computer file?
I saw Matt's graph and was wondering if something like that is there for me with pokerstars but can't seem to find.  I know that you can request your however many last tournament results though.  Thanks.

So far I've started with a $22 bankroll and am now at $149.  I'd say about 20-25 games total?  I"ll have to check that.

Well done mate, remember to keep to your plan, even if you have a bad run just walk away for the day and come back again another day, its very important to refrain yourself from tilting. It still happens me very occasionally.

The best place to check your results is  pokerprolabs.com    you will see the player search field on the home page and when you search your name and click on the link it will bring up your main page. Then you will be able to select from the tabs at the top of the screen to switch between, HU results, SNG results and MUlti table results. You will notice when you are using the tabs that the results are only the last 90 days, but you can do another search from within there and change the parameters from 90 days to, all data.

Cool thanks for the site.  Damn I should just make a new account and start all over.  I didn't know you could track this kind of stuff online.  My stats kind of suck.

Anyways I feel you on the whole going on tilt thing.  Which is why my stats suck because I always go on tilt and just donk off my money and keep reloading extra.  It became a bad habbit and almost felt like I enjoyed losing my money online.  But now it stops.  Hopefully.

I personally feel that this is the single most dangerous thing with online gaming. I find when you travel to the casino you have all sorts of time to think about your game. And when you see the game change, and have chips sitting in front of it is easy to stand up and cash out. When you go home you are reflecting on your session and arrive home ready to relax. Like going to work, and coming home after a long day.

But when you bring the casino into your home, it is very easy to get in the mood to play poker to "Relax" and unwind after a long day of work. This not only makes it tougher to tell when you are playing your "A" as opposed to your "D" game, but it also makes it tougher to walk away. When you cash out and leave the casino, you are gone. It takes alot more effort to turn around and buy back in. But online, it's a matter of walking into the next room. For this reason I think tilting is much more likely and much more volatile online.

For me personally, I feel that online poker hurts my overall game. Not only that, I hate the idea of a casino in my house. My house is a place to relax, not a place of business. When I have a bad of online poker, where can I go to unwind? The casino? For some they are successful at online poker. For others, like me, they are better off sticking with live poker. If you are winning at live poker, why mess with a good thing? Don't believe the hype that you need to be good at online poker in order to be successful at poker overall. All the pros that say that have major endorsements from the pokersites anyway. It's in their best interests to make asinine statements like that and lure as many suckers to the sites as possible. In the end, most of them realize it's a losing propositon long after the fact. And the pros still get a free buy in to the WSOP, thanks to all hopefuls out there who took their bad advice.

Not a fan of online poker or the corporations behind them all.

I personally like to be good at both live and online poker.

In Ireland you cannot get a live game during the day, only at night which doesn't suit me.

This is true... I am a little spoiled with the amount of casinos I have access to. I'm sure if I lived out in a remote town somewhere my opinion of online poker would be a little different. Either that or I'd be broke ass poor.
